kylelauren01
Looking at buying an apartment in southern Spain (Duquesa). Anyone got any experiences (good or bad) of the area, the Spanish process for buying property, pitfalls, etc. I'm aware of some of the issues but would like to hear from anyone with first hand experience. Cheers.
Gorgiewave
I haven't bought a house but I know a fair bit about the process. Make sure you get a good Spanish lawyer from a sizeable firm. Make sure you find out about the entire building. The apartment might be fine but there is the "comunidad" and all the communal areas. It is heaven for selfish, lazy people who don't want to pay their dues. My girlfriend owns the flat where I live and she pays about ?350 per month on communal matters. The "comunidad" has sued two of the householders for not paying anything and it's as slow as treacle. Many Spanish houses, especially those built in the Francoist era, are not high quality, so make sure you know about all current and predicted problems.
