Has anyone been following any of the Blue Square Premier League on Setanta this season?

What is peoples opinion of the 'access all areas' coverage? including the dressing room spy-camera & interviewing managers & fans whilst the game is on-going etc......

What do people think of the football & the atmosphere the fans generate at these games? seems to be quite a vibrant level of football this season.

Not seen it but it sounds a lot better than the coverage of the Scottish football

Haven't seen any of this, but have a real interest in lower league football (almost too much of an interest after this season watching the Hearts!) - football in the raw, with no bull. I used to go to loads of non league games when i lived down in London, and my team is Leyton Orient, ok, they're league, but they're a small club. Best atmos at these games by a mile, and there's bloads of local derbies and niggly fixtures that create a top atmos. Was worth noting the Exeter v Torquay play off the other day, unreal game, and no love lost there. I bet being there wouldn've been top gear. I'd rather go to one of these games than gash like St Mhirren v Failkeek any day of the week. The standards not much different anyway!

Oh it's definitely better than their SPL coverage although it is a very intrusive no holds barred fly on the wall look at football at that level, they have camera's & presenters travelling on the away team bus, camera & microphone inside the dressing room although that must be on a slight time delay now as they manage to bleep out many of the worst expletives but you still see a lot of what's going on & being said etc.....

They will interview a manager seconds after his team have had a goal disallowed or player booked or sent off etc. they follow the red carded player down the tunnel to see his reaction in the dressing room, they ask fan opinions on the match progress & how their team is doing during breaks in play etc.

The commentators are quite good as well and are well researched on the teams & players at that level they're commenting on.

And as MagicT says - you'd much sooner look at Rebecca Lowe than Chick Young! :)

The thing is as a league they obviously had to agree to all of the extra coverage, interviews, access to dressing rooms ets to get the deal signed. There is no way that the SPL (for instance) but really any football club at a high level would allow that on a regular basis. Mind you the soap opera that is Heart of Midlothian may well get better viewing figures than Eastenders !!

Possibly not at present however if as a TV spectacle this 'access anywhere' proves to be successful with viewers then it's not inconceivable that the TV companies ie SKY & Setanta could demand more tv access as part of their terms & conditions of the deals that are pumping tens / hundreds of millions of pounds into various football leagues or even billions of pounds where the Premiership is concerned - the TV companies have after gained more and more influence & control over football in the last 15 years so much so that many / most games are scheduled for their benefit with the views of clubs, managers, players & fans being secondary.

Anyway I could see it gradually creeping in with maybe the coverage of the Football Leagues ie Leagues 1 & 2 being next or maybe a deal with the SFL to cover some of our Lower Divisions (1st - 3rd) which are of a comparable level to the Blue Square Conference.

Can you imagine though? Yogi Hughes would end up having his own TV series!

Watched it a few times at the start of the season but the quality of football was awful so never kept it up. Quite liked the interviewing managers during the match etc. but would never be allowed at any decent level.

The format is copied from American sports coverage which is much more invasive even in their coverage of major events - football, basketball, golf etc. So you can never say never - with the amounts of money TV pumps into football they could gradually demand more & more access - he who pays the piper calls the tune etc.

Anyway the football aint so bad - Cambridge Utd have a striker Lee McEvilly....who really is like a younger more mobile John Hartson!
