Apollo 11 as experienced in real time

Ulysses

Well, not exactly - but a pretty cool approximation, IMO.

The site takes footage of the descent to the lunar surface with voice communication between Apollo 11 and Mission Control, audio of the conversations and discussions in the control room, text transcripts, telemetry information - and a record of Neil Armstrong's heart rate - and combines it all into a single "real-time" presentation.

It's definitely interesting if like me you're in that age bracket for whom the Moon landings were seen as history in the making. What stands out when listening is how many small and mundane things had to get communicated between Houston and the spacecraft, how many people it took to support the mission and make it work, and how chaotic and almost ragged the whole thing seemed to be.

Anyway, see what you think yourself. By the way, the whole sequence is about 18 minutes long.
