He would manage to lose a wrestling match he was scripted to win.

Fecking hopeless at his profession.

British and Commonwealth championships suggest he was actually rather useful.

He fell just short of his world title ambitions but I think after a bit of a break, he'll reach the top.

Went Pro far too early, got given too many powder-puff opponents and always got chewed up by real fighters. The man himself is also a complete ersehole.

Hope he reconsiders.

The joy he has brought to connoisseurs of the pugilistic arts is unrivaled by any boxer of his generation, in my humble opinion.

If anything I would say it was the other way around. The guy had good natural abilities such as decent speed, power, technical skills and was always in shape. He made his career in the Amateurs by sitting behind a long jab and hitting scoring points whilst avoiding being hit for 3 or 4 rounds, wearing a headguard and never having to get in to deep water. He couldn't adapt properly to the pro game because he was too scared of being hit, panicked when he did get hit, was over cautious as a result and lacked the heart to get in to a battle. As a result he often got beat by technically poorer fighters with less ability just because they were proper fighters and he wasn't willing to take any risks himself and get in to a battle.

If he had turned pro earlier theres no knowing whether he would have just been the same as he has been and wouln't have the benefit of being an olympic gold medalist but I can't see how another 3 or 4 years of him fighting 4 x 2 min rounds or 3 x 3 min rounds with headgear on would have in any way improved his lack of fight and heart and improved him at the pro game.

The thing is if his last fight was a 3 rounder I think Audley would have had a chance of beating the technically poor Wilder or making it until the end of the fight. As soon as you tell him it's a ten rounder and theres a good chance it's not going to go the distance either way he just is mentally gone and bricks it at the first flurry.

I don't know about that. The horse at that Newcastle-Sunderland game took a punch better than Audley does.

The comeback trail starts now.

If he gets his head right and back into training, he'll be unstoppable.

When they make the movie of his life, and they surely will, this will be the defining moment of what will be a multiple Oscar-winning epic.

With patter like that, it does not surprise me that Audley's excellence has escaped your notice.

Of course pugilistic aficionados such as myself, Kimi and Chad all appreciate his talents and will be proven right come 2014. It will be a magnificent year for the purists.
