Hearts Heritage
Tynecastle War On Rowdies IDENTITY SEARCH The football rowdy is back again. At Tynecastle of all places. Hearts' players have been complaining about it. In recent home games certain members of the team have been barracked for no apparent reason. Even Tommy Walker, most popular player in Edinburgh, whose football value has been assessed at ?10,000, has been victim. Alec Anderson, the ex-Queen's Parker, is another. But the worst sufferer is Bobby Johnstone, outside-left. The trouble is not widespread. It emanates from a certain little bunch of alleged "supporters" who get together in the stand. The Hearts' management know all about it. And can warn the barrackers they are being watched. Tynecastle has no patience with this type of supporter. They showed that before. A noisy bunch who gathered in a corner of the ground and relentlessly yelled at the home players was removed from the ground during a game and kept out for many weeks. The same thing will happen again if the delinquents do not take warning. The Hearts people don't mind legitimate criticism. Nor do the players. But the recent outburst has obviously been of deliberately harmful intent. Certain players are condemned by this bunch before they have kicked ball. Their successes are met with stony silence. Their failures jeered. The matter was referred to at a meeting in support of the formation of supporters' clubs. It was stated the language certain followers in the stand was a disgrace to the game. It is noteworthy this objectionable occurrence is heartily condemned by the big body of Hearts followers by management and players. Indeed, I heard it whispered that if the Hearts themselves don't take action the supporters will. But can tell you Hearts will make an example of the barrackers immediately they have satisfied themselves as to their identity. Hearts have given a lead to Scottish club managements in the past this matter. Their determination to keep the game clean and unsullied will as vigorously pursued ever. Barrackers, take warning.
