There should be a thing that you plug into the socket, like a cradle. You could keep it plugged in all the time. Then you simply place your phone onto it to charge it. Instead of having the phone on a worktop, charging, with the cable sticking out of the arse of it & taking up the whole place. Sometimes we have 3 phones on charge any night of the week.
