When i start up my home computer i get the following message:

It tells me to insert the Windows XP disk however i do not have it at home as its at my parents house (300 miles away!) so does anyone know any way round this or can i download Windows Xp onto a disk here at work and insert it into my home computer?

Do you not know anyone that has a windows xp disk you can borrow?

You have your own authorisation code so it will work fine

You can probably download xp from torrents, but it will be a huge file so may get you some trouble at work

I had the same problem. I tried a friends disc but it didn't except it.

I ended up using my rescue disc which restored the PC to its factory settings.

I copied all my photographs onto disc as well as some music.

My computer runs far better now as I have got rid of all the rubbish I had acquired.

Do a system restore from a date when it last worked OK.

That error appears when windows is loading up, so you can't get to the system restore option

Isn't it possible to get in by safe mode (ie pressing F* whilst Windows is booting up)? Should be enough to get you in so you can do a system restore, I'd have thought.

Might be different for the op, but when I got that error message I tried F8 several times but it never worked

The only way I could fix it was by repairing the installation through the xp cd

ARE SAID RESCUE DISKS SUPPLIED WITH THE COMP?

AND IF IT'S TAKEN A WALK ARE THEY ACQUIRABLE?

I'D LOVE TO GIVE MY COMPUTER A CLEAN OUT.
