Gorgiewave
Has anybody ever hiked any or all of the AT? I'm thinking of doing a section next year, flying to New York, spending a few days there, then hiking on the AT to Massachussetts before spending a few days in Boston and heading home. I've done part of the West Highland Way and some hiking in Spain, but never anything as ambitious as this. As far as the hiking bit, would anybody have an idea of the budget needed for about two weeks of hiking? I have boots but no other equipment. Does anybody know if it would be possible to buy equipment then sell it before returning? Any tips or stories would be appreciated.
FWJ
"A Walk In The Woods" by Bill Bryson is about his attempt to walk the Appalachian Trail - he does it with his friend Katz and is very funny (if you like his style)

That was how I heard of the AT, in fact.
