Time for Celtic to show their cards

What a day it has been. Firstly Vlads superb statement then Dundee United now standing up and being counted as well. The big question now is how long can Celtic remain silent? The pressure is mounting on them and the silence is growing more and more deafening. What justification can they have (to their own supporters more than anything else) for not stating their position? Is it because they need their ugly sister? Do they stand to lose more than anybody from Rangers predicament? The house of cards appears to be falling down, viva la revolution!

Suspect Celtic are waiting for clubs to make their stance with no to New Co.

Mind you, it would be the ultimate troll by Celtic if they came out with "No" meaning numbers wise Rangers would be consigned to the SFL

I think it's win win for the Sellick, rangers can't sign any players and may lose players with the transfer of contracts so Celtic have a canter to the title next year even with rangers2012 in the spl. They pander to their fans and vote no then rangers come up next year( if the div 1 is to be believed) and they can sign players and then who knows what 2013/2014 season will hold

This, I am 100% convinced Celtic will vote NO, but I suspect they will wait until 5 clubs have made it clear they intend to vote no, to remove any flak from themselves. Once 5 have made the statement all others will follow suit, and I wouldn't be in the slightest bit surprised if Duff & Phelps who will vote on behalf of Rangers, and have shown how fecking thick they are, release a statement saying we will vote NO.

a safe pair of sells

the celtic boardroom want a yes vote so that the rest of the spl don't get a chance to change the voting rights, and the majority of their support want a no for obvious reasons. i have spoke to 1 or 2 timothys who want a yes vote because they know what a change in the voting structure will mean, their strangle hold on the Scottish game will slowly ebb away. not completely, but enough for them and a newco to feel vulnerable!!!! YAS!

This exactly, the board are terrified to lose what they see as a cash cow, but they daren't upset their increasingly volatile support.

Just remind them that they are always supposed to take the side of the wee guy.

Well they attach themselves to just about every other cause.

Celtic, the capitalist socialists.

the terrorist lovers board must be squirming. if it wasnt for the huge backlash they would recieve from their odious support, guaranteed they would vote YES.

i cant wait to see what they come out with. surely they will want to be seen to trump Vlads utter smackdown of a statement.

All the Celtic fans I know are convinced they'll vote no but I'm not convinced. Their fans really want Rangers relegated as far as I'm aware and they could implode if their board votes yes.

Celtic cannot win here imo.

Voting 'NO' weakens Celtic financially - less TV money, less sponsorship money and less paying fans. They will no longer be able to do deals together and their cosy but rewarding off the field relationship would be finished forever.

Voting 'YES' would alienate them from a large section of their support.

I bet they're squirming at the thought of what is soon to follow :)

I'd be suprised if they issued a statement at all, I think they will wait until all the other teams have confirmed how they are going to vote and when it's a no they will come out with some crap stating it didn't matter how they were going to vote as the majority of other clubs have made their decision

celtic will sit on the fence here as they have everything to lose if they come out and state they are voting yes by alienating their supports and voting no upsetting their neighbours that they have been in cohoots with for decades

exactly.. whatever happens they will say " its no our fault coz a big boy (or wee mob) did it & ran away" they will change/edit it to suit themselves.

The Celtic board have been shown up for the spineless cowards that they are. The Celtic fans have been taking it for granted that Celtic would be a definite NO vote.It now seems clear that Celtic really wanted to vote YES but were waiting to see if a yes vote from the other clubs appeared certain. Celtic would then have voted NO to appease their fans.I think we can now expect some kind of long winded statement from them saying how much they were always against the idea of a newco being admitted to the SPL .As I said total cowards they should have been the first club to tell their fans what was happening not one of the last.

Would Celtic fans boycott their own club should they vote yes ?

We have all read and heard the threats of a boycott from the fans but when push comes to shove will the board vote No ?

The sheer fury of their fans reaction should they vote Yes makes a part of me want to see the board bottle it.

Or would they, the fans, crumble and back the board backtracking as they went ?

Celtic and Rangers (RIP) are two sides of the same coin. As has been said elsewhere, they hate each other on the field, but love each other off the field.

Despite the Celtic claims about not needing Rangers (RIP), they have benefited as much from the imbalance in Scottish football as has their bigoted twin. They feed off each other. When it comes to the vote on July 4, once Celtic see the necessary 'No' votes to bock Newco, they will abstain. By refusing to vote one way or the other, they will keep their hands clean, in their view.

Integrity and Celtic are mutually exclusive terms.

Latest thinking is that there will be no vote as Green will likely withdraw the SPL application and concentrate on getting an SFL place.

I mentioned this on the Utd thread, but I'm betting Celtic were banking on a secret ballot so they could vote them back in on the sly and plead ignorance.

Clubs showing their hands puts them in a very awkward situation, as if the ramifications of Mr Romanov's statement couldn't get any better :pleasing:

Why are they called "The Old Firm"? Of course because their business interests are bound together and on every major issue they have always stood together .

I think Celtic will only vote NO when they see the Rangers cause is lost. On the other hand they won't want to be SEEN to be saving Rangers, so they will only vote YES if their vote is the crucial decisive vote. Ideally they will want a secret ballot so they can 'let it be known' they voted NO while actually voting YES.

Still have the feeling that Celtic will vote Yes and hope that the tv money can cover any backlash from the BFINTW.

Agreed, I think they'll sit tight and go with the majority (which looks like a no now) once it becomes apparent which way the vote goes. I'd also expect them to try and take the lead claiming they were the driving force behind the outcome.
