Apologies if this has already been discussed. But I have been working away & I picked up a copy of 4-4-2 & they discussed every team from Scotland & England & who were the best & worst foreign players for every club. For Hearts they picked:

Best: Antti Niemi

Worst: Gordan Petri?

Do you agree?

Hard to argue I suppose but on a personal level I'd maybe edge out Niemi for Stephane Adam- loved watching him play.

How can you say Petric was worse then Barasa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd go with Niemi but while Petric was bad, there are a number of candidates who are probably more deserving - Beslija, Makela, Berthe, Nade and Eskilsson to name a few examples.

Best - Skacel. Worst - Kurskis

Pretty accurate IMO. It's hard to nail down the worst considering some of the shite we've had

This is a toughie. Best = Niemi and worst = barasa. I think fyssas has easily been our top foriegn outfield player but it would be Vincent guerin had we had him for a season or two as he was top class

There is quite a few could be the worst.

All about opinions and i agree with most of those except i didnt think Pospisil was that great and would have Jankauskas in the "Best" team instead and I honestly thought that any time Kancelskis played he looked ok.

Kancelskis was a great player, right across the back 4. The only bad thing is he couldnt play without getting booked. Beniusis would have turned out ok if he was managed right and not thrown to the lions IMO.

Niemi was unbelievable.

beslija and nakela were far fom the worst we have had... beslija was a good player but didnt live up to the crazy hype.. makela was a good player and always wanted him to start.

worst: [insert name ending in aunas]

There has never been anyone as bad as Kurskis.

Skacel best foreigner.

The feature took into account transfer fees & wages etc, so by that reckoning I'd say Petric is by far the worst.

Thought Rudi was a stick on for best!

A bit annoying when you notice that 2 of the best foreigners we have had at the club ability wise aren't quoted by anyone. Annoying as in what a pair of lazy fecking wasters they were.

Kingston and Pinilla.

Peter Van de Ven did a job for Hearts. Not great but nowhere near this thread.

Barasa, kurskis,Petric were all terrible but i have yet to see the name Fitzroy Simpson

Posted

To quote 4-4-2:

Best Antti Niemi

1999-2002: 106 apps, 0 goals

The Finnish No.1 was a mark of dependability, making a real name for himself with his penalty-saving before joined Southampton for ?2m.

Worst Gordan Petric

1999-2001: 45 apps, 1 goal

Not only error prone, but expensive: the Serb defender, said to be on ?10k a week, was the worst of the deals contributing to Hearts financial woes.

Simpson was awful. His only saving grace was his great display in a 3-2 win at Parkhead.

Posted

Niemi

Maybury Karipidis Goncalves Fyssas

Kingston Aguair Brellier Skacel

Bednar Jankauskas

Our best foreign team would be something like that.

Posted

Takis

Niemi was a class player for us however it was often easy to forget how good Takis was, he just oozzed class and you could see why he had played at the highest level.

Worst is surely one of the Liths who didnt get a game (lekevicius or razulis). Straceny was horrific in his appearence too although I am not doubting he was a better player than he ever showed us.

Great side. But i'd swap Flogel for Maybury, Tomaschek for Kingston and Pinilla for Jankauskas.

There isn't a side in the SPL who could live with that team.

If FFT did a best and worst player list again (they did in abou 2004), I'd hope Ian Murray would win worst Norwich player.

Strangely enough, in that 2004 list, Stephane Adam was listed as our best player (Petric was still the worst). It turned out the bloke they asked was told it was cult hero rather than best player - he admitted he would have given best player ever to Robbo.

Posted

In terms of pure 'value for money' Beslija has to be the worst... to think we spunked the best part of ?1mil on him and he'll probably forever be our record signing

Pospisil wasnt even half the player jankauskas was! Didnt mind micky as a player but technically big janny was light years ahead, as their respective CV's illustrate.

Maybe just too long ago for most on here - but I'm more than a little surprised that no-one has mentioned Roald Jensen - one of the best right wingers I've seen playing for Hearts. He'd get a game in any team I'd pick.
