Just watched the last part. What a boy, balls bigger than king kong. Amazing 18,000 mile round the world solo cycle by Scotsman Mark Beaumont - he got run over by an old dear then done over by crackheads in America in the same day. No stopping him though, and no danger of him winning the BBC Sports personality of the year either:mad:

Amazing programme.

Apparently he worked in my office for a short period of time and was a really nice lad but i never met him.

Truly inspiring stuff.

After Long Way Round and Long Way Down, this four-part, human-powered effort was boring.

A great achievement (he smashed 2 MONTHS off the previous record!) but it made for very very boooooooooring telly.

Cycle 10 miles. Go to bed. Cycle 100 miles. Go to bed. Cycle 100 miles. Go to bed. Have a rest day. Go to bed. Cycle 100 miles. Go to bed.

And so on and so on.........the only slightly interesting stuff happened on a 24 hour period in the deep south of the USA.

And to start with, we all knew he'd won before we even saw the show.

Could have been so much better. It came across as a total yawn-fest.

What did you expect, drama? "Blimey, I thought he made it back okay, but there he is having his legs chewed off by grizzly bears..."

Wasn't it all about the endurance of the human spirit, self-belief, determination etc.... - surviving through external and internal pressures (including sheer tedium/boredom)?

To that extent, the guy could have sat on his bike in a wind tunnel for six months whilst having the occasional bucket of water and half-brick lobbed at him to achieve the same effect. His round the world slog was marginally more entertaining, no?

And let's face it, the time slot it occupied is typical snooze-fest territory anyway.
