Alan_R
Dont get groupon stuff. anytime ive had a groupon thing as a gift ive had an awful bother redeeming it. too much hassle and waste of money. (the sherlock resteraunt are chancing *******s - 'name and shame!') We really appreciated store gift vouchers. Way more useful that all the glasses and champagne etc. Mind you are skint after a wedding so its nice to still be able to pick up a few things you need/might like! Vouchers is the way forward. You might think it lacks imagination but it's much more likely that the couple will use these, along with other vouchers and/or money, to choose something they really want. I take it there's no wedding list.

A Boy Named Crow
Go to one of those charity websites that lets you buy things for a third world village. "Give" them ?100 worth of water pumps, chickens and a goat (you gotta buy the goat!). No matter the situation, nobody can ever be seen to be ungrateful for such a gift!!! IronJambo
Most if our guests helped to pay for our honeymoon but from the few gifts we received the nicest and in no particular order were: Japanese ceramic mugs (from different Japanese couples), a handmade quilted/patchwork cushion, an tasteful ornament that we'd never have bought ourselves, a Viking boat style candle holder(from a Swedish couple), an original painting from one of our favourite artists, and a canvas print our ourselves in a 'blur' style cartoon image (can't remember the album it was on the sleeve off). You're right to set a budget, but its not really about what you spend. To be honest, and whilst its not my favourite item the cushion melted my heart because we know the girl put time, effort and thought into it. She also made our cake which is a mammoth task
