The optical express in The Gyle has a big sign saying that they are the best or most used in the UK. It has a price as well but can't remember.

It's ?395 per eyes from optical express.

That seems to be really cheap. My friend just had it done last Thursday and I think it was something like $4,000 for both eyes.

You may have to travell for a consultation, a friend had to go down to Newcastle for his. In the end he couldnt have it done so has to stick with contacts.

cheers for that I was a concerned at the ads that say from-----?395

I was wondering if I get it done, because I only have one working eye if that makes any difference. My good eye is as they say going downhill. if there is an opticians out there maybe they could help with a bit of advice.

Thanks again JB

There are no clinics that carry out the procedure in Edinburgh, only in Glasgow.

You'll get consultations in Edinburgh though.

Good stuff, and about time too.

I had to go to the weeg when I had it done by Optical Express 3 years ago as there wasn't anywhere in Edinburgh who did it.

A Boy Named Crow

I had a Physics lecturer at uni. He specialised in lasers. When asked about laser eye surgery, he just tapped his glasses. He said he wouldn't go near it. That's all I know.

Funnily enough, no opticians have had laser eye surgery... kinda says something me thinks!

I know a guy who got laser treatment. It cost him about ?3,000 and he says it is the best money he has ever spent.

Be very careful if you choose to get it. Ive one mate who thinks its been great. Not a problem and the best his sight has been since he was a bairn. But ive another who got it who spent the 3k and has had nothing but problems. He's had constant trips to London to see the top guy down there and there is still no sign of it getting better two years since it got done.

Get it done if you are 100% confident and your vanity is beating you up!

The problem with all recent treatments is that no-one really knows the long term effects. We'll found out one day though. :whistling:

Is it true you need to be over 21 to get it done. Something to do with the eyes taking until adult age before they stop adapting, changing or whatever the term is?

I would like my son to get it done in the future as its NO fun for anyone to wear glasses. They may seem to be cool to some people, but to others its an open target of personal abuse.

Getting a bit fed up chasing parents and threatening them with their knees if their sons to stop calling my lad names about his glasses.:)

I had it done at Optimax in Glasgow 4 years ago. I got both eyes done at once. I would thoroughly recommend them.

There was an offer on when i got mine done, 2 for the price of one... No jokes please.. I paid ?1000 and my sister and me both had ours done for that price.

As i say, i would recommend them.

I've had mine done, around 2.5 years ago. No regrets, a quick easy procedure, better than 20/20 vision now, cost nearly ?2000, but it was money very well spent!

I'll want to know about the effects on night time vision, I think the light receptive area is at the edge of the Eye, is this not the bit that gets "Lazered"?, anyone know if it's effected?.

It's ?395 per eyes from optical express.

That's the minimum charge. The worse your eyes are the more expensive it is. I had a consultation with them, it turned out that my eyes weren't suitable but if they were it would of cost me closer to ?3000.

I was at optimax yesterday, got both eyes done, still in recovery mode but got a check up today and have 20/20 vision already, doctor says that my vision will become sharper with time. I was reading the comments book before I had the surgery and they were all saying how good it was, and it is, also how there was no pain, well I beg to differ!! I was in agony on the way home from the surgery, and couldn't wait to get home so my wife could give me the anaesthetic eye drops.

But hopefully it will al be worth it!

Just noticed this thread.

Price varies due to procedure and your Rx. Currently only operations to correct your distance vision are commonly carried out but reading can be corrected too, although most laser clinics are still developing this.

The big laser clinics are in Glasgow although there will be a big one opening in Edinburgh in the not so distant future.

You'll be looking at around ?1000+ anyway in most cases. You can get cheaper (ie ?395) but this is for very minor Rx.

Procedure is painless and quick and depending on which procedure you opt for you could be recovered by the very next day.

There already is one in Edinburgh....Ultralase at Meadowbank has been there for a year and does procedures there.
