Towards an acceptable BNP?

Half decent article albeit with some massive logical errors. The comments below are pretty good though.

I'm an ex-Labour party, ex-Amnesty and soon to be ex-Unison member. Why the ex? I'm sick and tired of being blamed and hated for things I've never done, simply because I'm a white male. My views and experiences are ignored or denied while everyone else is represented and supported by black or women's forums and networks. Of course I can't be represented because, I'm told, we live in a white male-dominated society; as if the middle class public school boys who own and run everything have anything in common with me. Keep pushing white working men away from democracy and representation and see what happens.

I really hope that I never live in a society where the BNP are "acceptable".

IMO the problem for mainstream parties is the perception that people have in th eUK with regard to immigrants and minorities.

Bold headlines in the media about easy access to benefits and housing for immigrants and the percieved positive discrimination for minorities give fuel to the fire that the BNP feed off.

If the US can make it almost impossible for a UK citizen to emigrate there and Australia requires you to have a required skill, the question ordinary people have is why can't the UK do something similar?

For me personally the minimum requirement should be that you can speak English and have a talent that the UK requires - other than that I would welcome anyone to this country.

When threads like this appear I'm always reminded of my daughters 5th birthday - her best friend at school was a wee asian lassie - who was never allowed to come for tea etc - she duly got an invite to the party we never recieved a reply and my daughter was upset that her friend didn't come to the party. Her parents lived in the UK but were not interested in assimilating into our society probably becuase they couldn't speak English - thier daughter had to act as translator (at 5 yo) on parents nights etc. Needless to say the friendship died over the next couple of years.

Before I'm flamed as a neo-nazi racist bigot...my g/f is Polish I have worked and socialised with people of many nationalities and cultures and I go back to my initial statement - until the mainstream political parties debunk some of the myths that are portrayed as fact in the media then the chance of a BNP MP becoming reality grows and if this happens it will be a disasterous day for the UK.

We had exactly the same experience last year. Its not for the lack of effort on our/ my daughters part - the other wee lassies family just completely ignore all attempts at contact.

Language isn't the issue here either - the girls dad runs the local newsagent and both him / her mother speak excellent English when it suits them.

Based on what you're saying, sounds like there's a fair chance that no-one in the household could read the invite, never mind write a reply to it... :whistling:

Quite possibly cultural and/or religious differences rearing their heads. I work with a lot of Bengalis (Bangladesh) and they do actually see westerners as being dirty (i.e. we don't wash as much as they do) plus we eat various pork meats (love bacon) which is considered 'haram'..opposite of halal. If they are muslim they are paranoid about this.

They may also be worried about adults present drinking alcohol...or they could simply be total snobs.

Was chatting with Bengali mate earlier today and he was shocked that westerners (males anyway) don't shave their private parts (he'd been watching some medical programme) and thought we were all infested as a result. I have pointed out that in the UK this is normal and that you're unlikely to drop down dead from the odd cut or grubbieness whereas where they are from you have to keep very clean otherwise you will become ill. I also pointed out that we traditionally drink alcohol because it was safer than water years ago.

I also remember reading that a polish lady who had been in this country for a year or so hadn't picked up much, if any, of the english language. She said that this was due, in part, to the fact that every time she tried to get help for anything the authorities always got a translator and she was never given the chance to have a go herself. If you go somewhere like France they'll quite simply tell you to speak their language of gtf. Within reason they may well be right.

As for the BNP, they can GTF but I would say that anybody coming to live in this country from a different culture should HAVE to receive some education into our culture and what is acceptable behaviour etc and if they don't like it they are welcome to return to wherever.

Problem I think is entirely an educational, or lack of, one.
