New Stand: Ongoing work (updated)

The problem was there were no police on duty inside the ground. Something that the Club has now corrected for all matches.

Agreed, T.

We don't need that width if the Cat A games are whole Roseburn. That's another story....!

All roads lead to Gorgie

I am really positive about the way everything is taking shape but I still wish we could have added another row or two of seats to keep the capacity over 20k WITH segregation. Surely at the end of the day the costs would not have been significantly higher and a round figure attendance looks better!

Like the look of the crest in monobloc. Would have really liked a replica of the original one from outside the old tollbooth too.

TBH I am happy for there to be just one original 'Heart of Midlothian' mosaic on the Royal Mile.   Our unique Club badge and wonderful name are woven into the very fabric of our great City.

Except that one is nothing to do with the club

Except for the fact that our famous Club badge is based on it!

It is also known as "the Heart of Midlothian" - a tenuous connection right enough.

All fair enough. Just something I would have quite liked. No biggie. Maybe once we raise enough money to change the glass at a later date, we could do some more tarting up at the same time. Statues and more monoblock art for me.

Only half kidding. I'm sure you said that the reasons the architect went for that grey stripe look included the tight deadline for work starting, the amount of natural light, heating, and cost? Think you also said that the glass didn't cost anything near a million when someone suggested that.

Seems like it might be worthwhile going for something a bit better looking in the future, once we have the funds and no time constraints.

I am well aware of the history but the poster was saying the mosaic on the High Street should be the first and only club badge. It was never ours.

Erm... I didn't really say that. I just said that I would have quite liked a reproduction of it too. :(

Attendance is dissapointing tbh, was wanting over 20k after segregation. Thought the club would have made sure that was the case as other posters have mentioned.

It will only be disappointing if we get sell outs every week and fans are missing out. Don't think we're there yet

Really starting to take shape now. One observation though (unless the angle is deceiving) is that if the police box is staying put several fans aren't going to be able to see the Gorgie Road end goals.

The plans show a police/surveillance room within the new stand. When the fit out is complete there is speculation the existing police box will be either removed or reduced in size.

I think the poster has now corrected you.

The point I was making is that our name and badge are woven into the historical fabric of Edinburgh - we ARE the team of Auld Reekie.

Our famous badge is based on that historic landmark on the Royal Mile, and although our unique Club name came from a dance hall, it is shared by the above landmark and with a renowned novel by the incomparable Sir Walter Scott "Heart of Midlothian".

Makes me proud.

The system can be reglazed relatively easily, however there would be quite an expense for labour and access plant - not to mention more expensive glass.

TBH I think the Club will have many more priorities to spend money on rather than replacing glass. I would hope that when the development is fully complete and the facade is viewed in the finished setting the vast majority of Hearts fans will be happy with it.

I'm sure we could spend a small percentage of our Champions League money on it. Once our team can't be improved any further, we'll be on the look-out for little projects like this.

Not sure how you would do that given its structure and the rather large roof support through the middle.

My email from Eric Hogg, 31/07/17:

"...There is a plan to look at reducing the size (height and width) of the 'Police Box' to allow full unrestricted viewing but this will be in Phase 2. All efforts at the minute are on getting Phase 1 operational.

For info however, the room is actually the central control room for the stadium - it happens to double as the police viewing box on match days. It houses the control of all of out video surveillance cameras, our security system for stadium, the fire control system, the turnstile systems, PA system for stadium, control of all TVs in all of the suites and a computer hub. So as you can see, knocking it down is not a straightforward option!"

Interesting, but I still can't think how you could shrink it and keep it useable. Roll on phase 2.

I think they'll scale it back, but he was just explaining that there's more to it than just swinging a sledgehammer.

Yeah seemed a bit coy BB ,hopefully as we progress it becomes more of a priority as the more important things are completed.

Do you think our club would be stupid enough to sanction unnecessary glass replacement because some dopey fans fancied a change, bearing in mind the club will be owned by the fans.

Considering we are spending a lot of money to improve the capacity as far as possible within the constraints placed upon the club, your complaint is specious and comes across as just a means to justify yet another dig at them.

It will happen in "phase 2 works" - it has to, as right now the last 4 row of seats do not have view of the Gorgie Road goals. I believe that equates to around 200 seats that currently are unsaleable.

Unrelated point but would people like to see the removal of the hearts badge in the seat arrangements? all maroon seating would look perfect imo.

Starting a petition to 'save the 8-bit crests'.

To be honest they do look fairly pish. Cant be seen though as we actually sell our tickets unlike the team we unfortunately have to share our city with.

On the subject of next projects i see shrewsbury are installing safe standing ?62,500 for 574 seats i reckon we could do the bottom of the gorgie for about ?200,000 ?

Following your reply I returned to the photo and something else is now bothering me. The Police Box if it survives in its current form will mean the lower tier cannot be built as far along as the upper tier as the Police Box will be in the way.

Surely were not going to build around the Police Box shortly and then remove the Police Box a few months later!!!!

That would look terrible.
