Willie Johnston v Davie Proven (Recollections?)
the posh bit replied to Deodato's topic in The Terrace
First visit to Parkhead that day. It was utter carnage from h/t onwards and pretty much wrote the script for the next 4 or 5 years through there, some of which we came off better than others. On that day though, the Hearts support took no shite. And Provan was a diving *******. -
Because many Scottish people only eat fish that is battered. Most of our shellfish goes to France, Portugal and Spain as raw ingredients for their cuisine because nobody will buy it here... I've also met a few people from the west who still won't eat fruit and veg as adults!

Summer 24 Transfers - Vargas signs 5 year deal ( updated )

Is it settling if the players improve our squad though? I can confidently say for example that based on what I've seen this season Lyall Cameron and Luke McCowan are far more comfortable taking the ball on the half turn than Devlin. I'd take either over him currently. -

Yeah whether it is Armstrong or another in that profile , I think it is going to take a reasonable fee and even then there are no guarantees . Fiorentina and Istanbul were real eye openers in terms of quality of individual players -

This outcome was pretty predictable for Liverpool after that announcement. Feels like everyone including pool fans knew it would go this way. Klopps plan to quit should have been kept on lockdown until the season ended. Going public with it just created distraction, pressure on players and uncertainty about their futures. Never a winning mix

Danny, forgive me, a second answer to your question. I skim-read several of the newspaper clippings, where the term used was Johnston had 'followed through' after a throw-in. As my post made clear, that was also what I saw. I hadn't noticed the quote from Johnston that it was just a 'playful slap'! Had I noticed that, I would have said that he was absolutely telling the truth. His follow-through was, exactly, a playful slap. Certainly not a head-butt as the ref signalled at the time (then later retracted). The thing is, I don't think that the laws of the game allow footballers to slap each other in the face, playfully or otherwise. Was / is it a sending off offence (then or now)? Probably. The fact that Provan went down as if hit by a train, and the length of time it took for him to recover, was beyond pathetic. For many of us, that is the first and only thing we remember about him. But maybe it had a bearing on us getting the 'consolation prize' of John Colquhoun, the best Hearts winger most of us have ever seen, when we subsequently went shopping for wingers at Parkhead. It's funny how things work out.

100% mate. And I totally agree. But I think that’s why so many including myself are pointing to Armstrong. I’m 90% confident in him. we have been burned so many times. what’s that kid who played for Rosenborg doing 😍 sverre nypan. We can dream eh 🤣 -
Finished it last night. Unsure how I feel.

Agree too. Lyall Cameron and another very good bit more experienced midfielder would be good business. Especially as Beni will be going. -

Definitely wont be easy . What a difference it would make though especially in midfield -
When we play Rangers last day of the season.

I’m not doing this argument yet again, not the thread for it, aside from wondering why TF anyone cares what Hearts fans wanted back then. It’s not like we got a vote in it. -
With you on this one🤯

Willie Johnston v Celtic and no-one has mentioned this yet..... -
To whoever mentioned kebab pies, that is definitely a positive! Others to note... The victory over Rosenborg was pretty impressive. An increase in victories away from home (something that's caused us to lose so many points over the last few seasons). Two semi finals in the Cup despite rolling over in the most recent game is indicative of our long term aspirations. Highest points threshold we've had in the league for x amount of years. Two wins over Celtic! Signing 'proven' talent from the same league as us I think is good business. Europe secured for next season netting us a minimum £5million and then some. Off the pitch and we seem to be doing exceptionally well on the business front what with the hotel now up and running but also key people in key positions.

if we can find any we can afford yes, the problem is. In our segment of the market these are usually big gambles and fail more often than they succeed. that maolida at hibs for example cost £10m and had severe attitude issues. Scotland has been left behind financially and we simply can’t afford players that are likely to succeeed -

Agreed . We have made some good PCA signings by the look of it and these guys are always welcome . If we are losing Beni though , I hope we are able to bring in two midfielders of the sort you describe here . The lack of such players was exposed in the group stages last time around -
It's absolutely bonkers. Atlanta had other pressing needs, pass rush being at the top of that. I can't believe Dallas Turner slipped to 17. Unless they know something about Cousins achilles rehab that Cousins himself doesn't.

Rather than settle for SPFL players, I'd rather get in some guys with proper technical ability, strong on the ball, take it on the half turn and retain possession. Style of play we have these are the types who will make the difference. -
Netanyahu has been on US TV calling student protests antisemitism and asking for them to be condemned. The US speaker of the house who like the UK appears to have been bought and paid by Israel has said The National Guard should get involved in the student protests. In the 1970 when the national guard got involved in student protests students were killed. An iDF soldier has confirmed that they regard all Palestinians as Hamas. He also said that some commanders in the IDF are settlers from the West Bank who believe in ethnic cleansing (this was the case with the World Kitchen killings of UK citizens). The US has refused to join the calls by the UN to investigate the mass graves found at Gaza hospitals. David Cameron approved arm sales to Israel whilst awaiting the result of Israel’s investigation into the World Kitchen killings.

The teams that go at City are generally the ones that succeed. Arsenal were the first team I've seen succeed playing the way they did at the Etihad. Madrid did it a couple of weeks ago too.

Green Bay took a 21 year old QB to sit behind Rodgers and learn. Penix will already be 24 years old at the start of the season (Trey Lance is younger than him🤣). Cousins brand new contract is for 4 years, even if he was to only play for half of that, it still doesn’t make sense to use the 8th pick on Penix. All the Falcons have done is unsettle their starting QB who they’ve just paid, and at a time when they look like they could make a good run deep in to the playoffs. There was so much top talent still available that could start straight out the gate. One of the most bizarre picks I’ve seen in all my years of watching NFL drafts.
