The Old Tolbooth
Something that has bothered me for ages is what people call dinner time (12pm to me), and what people call tea time (5pm to me) Some people call dinner time- lunch, others call it dinner (like me) Some people call 5pm dinner time, and some people call it tea time (like me) So, my theory on this is Dinner time is 12pm, and it surely can't be called dinner time at 5pm when 12pm is dinner time, and tea time is 5pm, end of story. Lunch time is for snobs What do you call it?
neave
Dinner is your afternoon meal, tea is your evening meal. I'm with you, John. It causes mass confusion when using this terminology with foreigners, though.

Easy, I get my dinner at 5, if I wanted lunch I would have it at work, simple! And just to prove the point, when I picked Kay up at midday she said "I've just had lunch". Game, Set and Match! I told him that as we'd had a hard day he could come in at dinner time the next day. He turned up at 5pm. Stupid git as we were only working until 6pm. mac
I'm not talking about old English version of cucumber and egg cress sandwiches served at 4 o'clock with some fine Earl Gray with the crusts cut off - eff that, I want some real tea that gets my heart started - that would be, lashings of pints, a kebab on the way home, maybe a quick fumble thrown in to confirm a second night out, ohh, go on then, if you like... That's when I woke up, although if provoked, I do have some stories I prefer to keep to myself, ladies?

Chester™
Im very much in the camp that says Lunch is Dinner and Dinner is Tea. Thats the way ive been brought up. Both my grannies taught me (who come from different parts of the country) that as well as my parents. If there is any confusion amongst some who dont think like myself and others, im sure it starts when at school. You get a Dinner Ticket or go for School Dinners, not a Lunch Ticket or School Lunches. Boaby Ewing
Lunch is lunch is lunch. 12:00 p.m - 1.30 pm. The evening meal is more complicated - I'd probably say tea in the house, but it's definitely dinner if you're eating out. Brunch is the best meal ever invented though, but some of these *****s would call it brinner.
