If contact it's a red. Contact or not it's a red the intent is clear. Nobody hurdles a challenge like that, brings their feet together and stamps down with force. Celtic are hard done to though. 😀

It doesn't have to contact but endanger. If Vargas moves his leg it's definite sore one. McGregor isn't in control of the situation. Neither was the Referee to be fair. Ricardo Quaresma
Red, all day long, thought twice about it and still did it; pre-meditated Couldn't catch Vargas all match; couldn't handle the pace

John Findlay
Note it was the same referee Kevin Clancy who turned a blind eye to the McNulty stamp on Sean Clare in an Edinburgh Derby at Easter Road.
Seymour M Hersh
A friend was telling me of another refereeing "incident" during the game when two celtic players took each other out but of course Clancy gives them a free kick.

It's a clear stamp out, it's actually very aggressive and there is clear intent, it's about a clear a stamp that you'll see, from the clip I've seen- it's very clear. A clear stamp out on a player is red, so if I think it's a clear stamp, whichvI do then a red shoukd follow, both are linked. You think McGregor is nice and it's not his character ( no idea why that's relevant when reviewing a stand alone incident) and you do not think the clip or footage is conclusive, therefore naturally it's then not a red. It really depends on the thinking, is it a stamp or not and once you decide that the action follows. I think it's a clear stamp out, he jumps on our player then stamps out, clear as day to me. I then think it should be a red. There is no flailing or mus understanding, I see a clear stamp out. It's very aggressive, he can't control it as he jumps on him and I see intent. I don't know if he hit our player, but that does not matter if you are out of control and overly aggressive. You think not. If I also thought there was no stamp then ofc a red card cannot follow. It gets worse when you re watch it. No idea how it is unlear and McGregor, nice guy or not was out of order. That is not just a jump over a player, that is an aggressive stamp with intent! Brick Tamland
It’s just something Celtic captains can do without any punishment and have done for years and years. Every captain they have had has got away with similar challenges but they don’t get treated differently from the referees, no siree, not at all…
red
2 pages of sour grapes here if you ask me. CM jumps over Vargas as his knee clips his head Vargas immediately holds his head McGregor lands in middle of Vargas’s legs…. IF McGregor lands ON VArgas leg he’s out for the season…. There was no reaction, so probably not. He did get a kick on the head though. I'd expect a yellow card for that. He got nothing, not a warning as far as I know. McGregor could have easily went around Vargas. Instead chose to dangerously jump over him while he was sat up. Showing studs above his head and landed dangerously close to injuring Vargas. A far as I know that could be a red.
