I remember reading that in the 1880s when Hearts first moved the city limit was Haymarket and that special horse drawn trams had to be put on to bring supporters from Edinburgh! The council then wanted that land to build houses as the city was expanding and they offered us the current site. When our current home first opened, the pitch was perpendicular to what it is now and had a cycle track around it.
Polonia Gorgie
SATURDAY 11th APRIL 1998 On this day, the great man himself JOHN ROBERTSON scored his last ever goal for Hearts . I suppose it's fitting that it was at Easter Road but unfortunately Heart lost 2:1. Robertson played 55 games against Hibs scoring 27 and only losing 7 times. Polonia Gorgie
SATURDAY 12th APRIL On this day Hearts were away to St Mirren. A victory over St Mirren would see Hearts win their first championship for 61 years! Hearts came through a hard fought victory with a 3:2 win, the scorers for Hearts that day were, Wardhaugh and Young (2). Hearts scored an incredible 132 goals and only conceding 29 in 34 games. What a fantastic season.

Also: this thread is incomplete without pictures from @dannymack 😁👍 In February 1881, Heart of Midlothian FC moved to a private field in the Wester Dalry district of Edinburgh, on the 9th April the New (original) Tynecastle ground was officially opened with an 8-0 victory over Hanover. Before the uncovered stand (pictured below) and pavilion was erected a local public house* was used to allow the players to get stripped. The name of the new ground, Tynecastle, was taken from the Tollhouse (2nd picture). The last ever match to be played at the original Tynecastle was a 2-1 home victory over Sunderland on the 27th February 1886, with Davie Aitken and Rab Henderson scoring Hearts' goals. Over the Gorgie Road and onto the new field where on the 10th April 1886 Bolton Wanderers were defeated 4-1, the following month Preston North End visited but defeated Hearts with the same scoreline. * Players may well have stripped in The Gorgie Arms (Proprietor Walter S Stratford) 10th Photo. Polonia Gorgie
SATURDAY 17th APRIL 1915 St Mirren 1 Hearts 0 Hearts took to Love street knowing defeat against St Mirren would hand the title to a Celtic side that had trailed in their wake for 35 out of 37 weeks. Hearts, at one point, looked set to streak away with the league but as the season wore on there were growing signs that intensive military training, inoculations and unavailabilityof key players were taking its toll. In the end an exhausted Hearts lost 1-0 and the hollowest of titles went to Celtic Park.
Polonia Gorgie
SATURDAY 19th APRIL 2003 Hearts 2 Celtic 1 Hearts were unfortunate to fall behind to a Henrik Larson opener. Craig Levien's side refused to buckle from the pressure of the visitors, Phil Stamp equalised with his first goal for the club, Celtic threw everything in the last dying moments trying to score a last-gasp winner. Celtic had a nasty shock in store though as Austin McCann scored a 25 yard rocket past Rab Douglas. Polonia Gorgie
SATURDAY 20th APRIL 1878 Hearts 3 Hibs 2 Hearts registered their first ever trophy success as Hibs were vanquished in the fourth replay of the Edinburgh FA Cup. The venue for the triumph was the Edinburgh Football Association ground at Powburn, were Savile Terrace now stands. Two goals from John Alexander and another from George Mitchell sealed the win. According to reports, Hearts' Tom Purdie was attacked by a group of dissatisfied Hibs fans as he made his way home and was forced to seek refuge at a house in Causewayside. This is one of my favourite historical facts for a couple of reasons. One reason is not that our first captain was attacked but Hearts and Hibs were rivals a decade before Celtic were formed!! Nevermind the "Old Firm" we're the oldest firm!!
Polonia Gorgie
SATURDAY 21st APRIL 1956 Celtic 1 Hearts 3 A remarkable 133,583 crammed into Hampden to see Hearts and Celtic contest the Scottish Cup Final. After an edgy start, Hearts surged ahead on 20 minutes, Ian Crawford converting a pass from Alfie Connor. Just before half time John Cumming sustained a head knock, the wound above his eye was gushing with blood. Patched up for the second half, he showed his teammates the 'blood doesn't show on a maroon jersey' Alex Young passed to Crawford for him to convert for his second. Celtic's goal was the only Hearts would concede in the competition and with ten minutes left, victory was assured when Conn drilled home Hearts third. The cup was coming back to Gorgie for the first time since 1906 and joyous scenes greeted the open topped bus.
