It would be absolutely incredible if we were able to break in to the top 3 in a single season, unless one of the other teams has gone significantly backwards and there are no signs of that. Closing the gap on 3rd, pulling away from 5th place, scoring more goals against the weaker sides, and a few more positive performances against the top 3 are probably more realistic aims this season than breaking in to the top 3 or indeed challenging for the title. City have had comfortable 3-goal wins against Hibs, Thistle and Motherwell before drawing away to Rangers. So looks like they will be in a three-day battle for the title again. Saint Jambo Posted September 2, 2023 Share Posted September 2, 2023 1-0 down at half time. Unfortunate own goal after 35minutes, with an attempted clearance rebounding off a Hearts defender and in. Hearts then had the ball in the net but ruled off for a very tight offside. But Glasgow City clearly the better team. Hearts left back Morgan, really struggled to handle Davidson on the city right. Required a series of good saves and fortunate misses to keep Hearts in this. Hearts probably trying to play too much football out from the back against a better team and too often losing possession in dangerous positions (maybe all the fault of Levein the puppet master). Could do with being more direct at times. All that said, Hearts have created a couple of openings and probably should have scored just before City took the lead. Hearts even more guilty of playing themselves into trouble by trying to pass the ball out from the back. Decent finish for the second goal, but odd the ref didn't stop play for two balls being on the pitch. He was totally overly officious with everything else all evening, but decided to let that go. First time I've seen them this season and I would say we have improved since last year. But I'm not surprised that there is still a noticeable gap between us and city. Realistically this year is probably about dropping very few (if any) points to anyone outside the top three, and get a couple of results off the the top three.
