Morgan
Afternoon all, I have asked a couple of questions on here recently (mold and sash and case windows), and have had some really helpful and useful replies. I have another. This one is about toilet cisterns. We think we are getting the wool pulled over our eyes by our property managers with regard to the cause of a cistern splitting, a chunk of porcelain falling off and the three supporting bolts ‘weakening’. When we queried this further with them we were told that the rubber washers had perished and this caused the cistern to come away from the wall! Does this sound feasible to anyone of you who know about this sort of thing? If I get any replies, I can post two photographs that we were sent. Thanks very much in advance of any help. Dazo
I’m not a plumber but rubber washers used to fix the cistern to the wall doesn’t sound right to me.
tightrope
Rubber washers can perish, but it's the screws that hold the thing on. Trust me it's the fitters fault, not been fixed to the wall correctly. They are acting like Hibs fans. Hard at it
tightrope
Fixing won't corrode as they are not under water. At most you would get a little movement metal washer on top of rubber would stop it. It's harder to get it wrong. I have seen cisterns with no fixings, they have been fine.
felix
Sounds like the fixings have been over tightened, causing porcelain to split ?

Agree with these hence why I didn’t think the rubber washer sounded right. Maybe a dodgy repair attempt if the original fixings came loose ? Plastic washers are used, usual. And they don't need to be under water to rot. It's a bath/shower room with heaters. Steam you say hitting walls and morphing back to Water, you say. Water will reach. Trust me. You better change the screw that hold the pan anaw, bud @Morgan Condensation is not your friend. Vent the roof or put a fan through the wall. I think we are getting there though, slowly but surely. Cheers again, G

If they were prone to just falling off, I'm sure we'd have had of lots of injuries due to them falling on folks heids when the flush chain was pulled.
