For New Order/Joy Division Hooky's and Steve Morris books are good. Bernard Sumner's is a bit disappointing. Brett Anderson's two books also really good, the first one, Coal Black Mornings is fantastically written. I forgot about the Steve Hanley one. The viv abertine one is supposed to alright as well. It's what got brix Smith to write hers

Lots of great stories and written in a nice style. Was privileged to see him playing with Billy Bragg somewhere in Victoria street. My Fav 60s band. Best fact about them is that the oldest was 21 when they split up.

He wasn’t an official member of the band so was on session musician wages. After much complaining and the support of the band he was allowed to be an official member. And his wages were slashed as his musicians union rate was way more than the rest got paid. Sadly they never saw any royalties for their recordings for a long time as their manager Don Arden (Sharon Osborne’s dad) pocketed all the money from record sales. There's a good documentary about them on YouTube where they mentioned Osborne's dad. Aware of that when I see her. Guys at 17 and 19 producing their stuff and not getting what they deserve. There's about 4 books on here I'll order very soon. This one will be well worth it. There is a good performance of Happy days toy town on youtube where the music stops and they keep going. Captures them brilliantly.

It's what got brix Smith to write hers I've got that in my pile to read as well actually, had forgotten! I keep adding to the books (which was piled up from various Fopp purchases) but with parenting and work, hardly got through any in lockdown. Really should start the Mark Lanegan one as that is meant to be brilliant (but harrowing).

There's about 4 in here I'll order to begin with.

CF11JamTart
A pal was recommending the Lanegan book yesterday. Sounded brilliant but a tough read. That's on the list now
CF11JamTart
Trouble Songs by Stuart Baillie. A narrative of the conflict in Northern Ireland through the context of music and bands. Very good (and balanced). Some good stuff on Stiff Little Fingers.

I have no really interest in listening to Thin Lizzy, but "Cowboy Song", a biography of Phil Lynott was excellent. I enjoyed Stuart Cosgrove's Soul Trilogy too. There's a lot of good stuff out there. I read creation stories. Some of it felt a bit embellished to me. Not to say I didn’t enjoy it but still

McGee basically saying that Irvine Welsh's film is quite loose in its creative interpretation of McGee's book. 50% of it happened. 50% was Welsh's interpretation. "I don't hate it. It's ok. I can live with it".
jkbam
John Peel - Margrave of the Marshes, really enjoyed this when I read it. JP's Olivetti Chronicles is decent too, but it's just a collection of his old articles so a bit of a mish mash.
Marvin
Alan McGee's Creation Stories, riots raves and running a record label. Soon to be made into a film Great read by the founder of Jesus and the Mary Chain and Oasis. I very much recommend this.

Lots of stories through their career from daft punk teenagers to MCA’s death, some told by them, some told by various people that knew them - Chuck D, Kim Gordon etc. And as they’re music daft, some great scribbled mixtapes from each of them scattered throughout the book.
