Orlando City Vs New York FC

MLS play offs this evening.

1-1 in 120 minutes, and onto penalties.

NY hit the first of the bar, but the next 7 are scored. Its 3-4 in Orlandos favour going into the final kick for each team, and then...

Spoiler

The Orlando keeper saves to win the match. Celebrations start, but after a minute or two it's called back, he was off his line, and as he'd been booked for time wasting in near the end of the match he is sent off.

Orlando sort out the sub keeper and sub off a defender. This is all seemingly OKd by the ref and the sub keeper is on the line with the kick about to be taken, before the ref (or someone in his ear) remembers you can't sub during a shootout. The reserve keeper is then sent back to the bench and the defender who was subbed off takes over the gloves.

The penalty is retaken and scored, Orlandos is saved, and now it's sudden death.

Another two penalties each go in before the defender gets a hand to one and knocks it wide, massive celebration, getting carried around the pitch by his team mates, before someone points out NY are going first, it's still tied, and Orlando have to take their penalty and score to secure their win.

They do so and end one of the most mental shoot outs ever.

That foot on the line rule is a nonsense, like the new handball & offside laws. Purely  because we now have var and have to justify its use. Piece of shit rules driven by TV.

Incredible stuff. Goes to show what an utter farce these new rules are.

How is it none sense? It’s the rule. It’s not subjective. Remember one game against Hibs when Zibi was almost in the 6 yard line when Hartley took the pen. If he saved it would you be happy with that because it’s a none sense rule? Same with offside, you’re either on or you’re off. Doesn’t matter if it’s a yard or a millimetre. Handball I’ll give you.

Probably the only exciting thing to happen in that league all season. A pantomime of a league that not even throwing in 'A listers' will make it into a proper production. Listening to that and even the Mexican commentators annoyed me.

I don't no which is worse, the refereeing performance or the commentary team.

It’s an absolutely ridiculous rule.. takers get to stop and stutter as much as they want.

Refs not got a clue about the rules.

Keeper should have got a warning. Even then there is an argument that his foot was on the line just not physically touching but on it.

Then subbing a goalkeeper on during the middle of a penalty shootout.

To compound it even more during a sudden death shoot out the ref blew the whistle for the end of the game before Orlando got to take their spot kick.

Sums up the American league and d

Standards of refs

Commentary team were just as clueless.

Americans better sticking to trying to go 10 yards in 4 downs!

My thoughts exactly.

Makes Scottish refs almost seem up to scratch watching that shitshow!

That ref would be perfect for the vacant Compliance Officer role in Scotland

That ref will be head-hunted by the SFA.

Commentators...
