Interesting about the South Sea bubble. Had never heard of that and that's my afternoon reading sorted. My original point was, if i have a debt of say £1 million on a credit card and I pay that credit card off, but in the meantime have accumulated a further £2 million in debt from another loan, I haven't really 'paid off my debts'. I realise it's not as simple as that, but interesting nontheless

2020 they paid off some long time debt to America. The News said it was WW2 debt.

29 December 2006 the UK paid off the last of it's WWII debt, according to reports.
