davemclaren
We have Hive to control or heating snd water. You can add smart plugs to the hub but they are ridiculously expensive. Anyone recommend any other, cheaper, smart plugs that work well?
Beave1874
Hi Dave, I've got a few cheap ones and work well with Alexa for my lights, etc https://www.amazon.co.uk/EDSUN-Socket-Outlet-Amazon-Google/dp/B07DK32DP4/ref=sr_1_46?dchild=1&keywords=smart+plugs+for+hive&qid=1598213250&sr=8-

Cheaper to run and can display any coloir you like. All controllable with alexa/Google voice too. Might be a better option over the plugs. You can also get WiFi enabled light switches which are handy if you have a lot of ceiling lights.
jamboj
Ikea ones do the job. Have the plugs in the kitchen and lights in the bedroom. Significantly cheaper than the Hue stuff i have in the living room and no difference in quality imo
Mysterion
Hi Dave - the Hive system is great but you are right about the expense. The real advantage of the smart devices is integration with google home/alexa so you can rapidly turn up the heating/turn lights on/off. I assume you are using one of those systems too ? I heard the Ikea ones are good. TP Link have been around for a while and have a good rep. Their original range has dropped in price and 2 for £25 on Amazon just now. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Monitoring-TP-Link-Required-Control-Anywhere/dp/B07GWWPM9B/ref=sxin_9?ascsubtag=amzn1.osa.878ad752-6246-4e1e-9d04-ef65c02ec6e0.A1F83G8C2ARO7P.en_GB&creativeASIN=B07GWWRK1C&cv_ct_cx=smart%2Bplugs&cv_ct_id=amzn1.osa.878ad752-6246-4e1e-9d04-ef65c02ec6e0.A1F83G8C2ARO7P.en_GB&cv_ct_pg=search&cv_ct_wn=osp-single-source&dchild=1&keywords=smart%2Bplugs&linkCode=oas&pd_rd_i=B07GWWRK1C&pd_rd_r=d94c2cad-637e-449e-9fd2-6b78fb1eb279&pd_rd_w=n7rLg&pd_rd_wg=3x0rt&pf_rd_p=60a3a643-0296-49e5-9e74-6a4d4591d289&pf_rd_r=241M1ECBSP5F5P5FXB5H&qid=1598277055&sr=1-2-32235bf8-c8dc-423d-b49a-58af94d8b862&tag=plonsite-21&th=1 The thing with the devices is being able to set them up and juggling different apps to control them. That's where combining them into an overall system like Alexa/Google home pull things together nicely (the ones with screens too are good for control). Would add - i have some hive thermostat/heating, lights, plugs, smart radiator thermos. They are expensive but their schedule system works great, also use Alexa and Google Hubs to control them. Hive usually have a Black Friday sale which is good. Also worth asking anyone you know on British Gas if they get a Hive discount code in their account rewards.
