He is getting an op.

A small final one that was delayed by the virus. He may have had it now. On June 1st he said: "The most important thing is that I will soon be fit and be able to train again,” Sound like he'll be ready for pre season.

Some will disagree, but add Souttar, Halks, Walker, Irving and Clare to that and we're a cracking team.

Smith isn't away anywhere yet, neither is Washington. Hendo, Moore, McD, Harry, C Smith, Brandon, perhaps even Morrison all have parts to play too.

It's far far from a bad squad.

Haring, you feel, is the glue though.

(no. Lbs mentioned here: think Aaron will go, jury still out on Ben and Aidy, but either of them could grab the chance given extended run instead team)

Oh yeah, absolutely, there are decent players there. I was thinking centrally, kinda right down the middle. Irving especially could do really well beside Haring.

On left backs, Hickey wants to leave, I think that much is obvious so just get him out the door and see what we can get. When these contract things rumble on folk just start to get pissed off. Someone mentioned Daniel Harvey from Ayr as a replacement, quite whether Lachlan Cameron would do business with us (or us him) is another story, but he seems to get good reports. On the opposite end of the spectrum, if we''re still a premiership side when the league starts, Lee Wallace could be a solid choice. Only 32 and not really playing at QPR. I watched Hallidays interview with Si Ferry and he really went to great lengths to emphasise how much of a leader Wallace is. High standards, that kind of thing. I really think moving White and Garuccio on and bringing Wallace in is a solid decision. Between him, Gordon, Berra & Naismith you have a core of former/current internationals alongside the likes of Souttar, Washington and Boyce. If its workable, I'd go for both as replacements for all 3 of our left backs.

Don't disagree. Only issue is Ben and Aidy are contracted and you'd be daft to walk away from a job the now. I guess Ben could decide to stay in Oz if given the option.

I don't mind Ben and Aidy could just need a run and some luck. But both are something of longshot options. Wouldn't hang yer hat on either to give you 30+ games at 6/7+ out of 10 next year.

Triggers an interesting one. He hasn't played much for quite some time, has he. And hardly at all at top level for something like 6/7 years. Does he still have it?

Its true he's not played much in the last sort of 3 seasons, obviously thats something to consider. Levein talks about (I think in relation to Gordon) that you can kind of add the years you miss onto the end of your career all things going well.

At our level, I don't think he's anymore a gamble than signing White was (arguably less so considering the lack of injuries). IIRC his lack of game time in his final two years was down to some pretty disgraceful treatment from the rangers board at that time.

One of the things which stuck out to me was the real lack of leadership we had throughout last season and actually for the seasons proceeding it too. Naismith has that sort of character but virtually all were posted missing when it matters. Wallace is highly regarded and put into the same bracket as Kenny Miller for leadership skills. That seems a pretty solid endorsement. I think we really need to compensate this coming season and make sure our senior players are leaders across the board. 3/4 'captains'. Standards have slipped big time and signing guys that will drive standards and make sure basically that the fans aren't being taken for mugs, because thats exactly whats happened.

Could be wrong but believe Wallace is interested in coaching too.

I agree but that's a very long lay-off.

I was a bit concerned to read that he is still to get another operation which was cancelled due to Covid. When the hell is he going to have that done and how long will his recovery be from that????

I think this may be the case too. Its sad but it's been setback after setback. I remember reading about that Irish specialist physio/chiropractor, he promised last year he'd have Peter back running within a week, never heard much after that.

Now he's due another operation - it's grim.

So many experts that seem to know he’s finished. 🤣

Thankfully those that matter, including Haring himself, won’t give up so easily.

He’s 27 and, if that operation can sort him out I’d wait, provided his wage demands are okay. Bear in mind he “always” had that issue, even when he was playing regularly. I’d love to see him fully fit

Very hard to shift Garuccio or White now. Will probably just see how they get on under Robbie in the Championship rather than bring anyone else in. Think Hickey's lack of movement to Celtic by now could spell a bit of financial concern at Celtic Park if they're not splashing out on transfer fees, what a shame. 🙂Will hopefully hold out for a move to England or abroad.

Really hope we can get Haring back playing again. Very important cog.

I would also like us to get Toby Sibbick back, he could fill in if Haring doesn't get back, but can play alongside if he does make it also.

I was impressed with Sibbick when he played in the middle of the park. Looked solid and you felt comfortable when he was on the ball. Unfortunately they moved him to left-back after a sending off (or injury, can't remember) and he didn't look comfortable in that position at all. Be an ideal player to get back in midfield but probably outwith our wagebill. If we were to get a solid centre-half like Jimmy Dunne back then Halkett could play in defensive midfield role. Again though, maybe outwith our wage bracket. Getting them on loan would do for me. Halkett looks much better getting forward to support the attackers than he does defending. Could be an ideal replacement for Haring if he can't get back again.

If by the end of pre season neither party is convinced on his fitness then we should just release him. We've given him long enough and sent him to numerous specialists.

I feel bad saying he wouldn't be missed, but he wouldn't, because half the time I forget he's still here until I see him walking around the pitch before kick off.

Hopefully we'll be better run going forward, no more retirement home signings and contracts handed out on compassionate grounds. We need more value for money.

He's been out for only one 30-game season. We've had players out for that long who came back and were important players again. Craig Levein did it twice. Tons of players have done it at other clubs after more serious injuries. The original Ronaldo was out for about 3 years at one point FFS.  If the docs say he's on course to play again we should keep him. He could end up being a very important player for a number of seasons.

He wouldn't be missed??

We have missed him all season, so much that we could playing in the lower league because of it.

Do they even know what his injury is though?

Craig Levein said he might be back next week a few times and he's probably still not fit 🤣 He wasn't a world beater, he could be easily replaced with a free transfer this summer, no doubt about it.

We did miss him last season. If he's going to be out for half of this season we are better replacing him.

He was signed as a centre half and was shoehorned into midfield and people act like he's irreplaceable.

We've done well by him, if he's not fit by the end of the window then we should part ways.

IMO ofcourse.

Like how Paul Hartley was signed as a winger and shoehorned into central midfield? 😂

Every successful and trophy-winning Hearts team over the years has had a very good DM or deep-lying midfielder (often a converted central defender) anchoring midfield. Berry, Salvatori, Gomis, Brellier, Barr... It's absolutely one of the keys to success. Haring was showing that he could be one of the best we've had in that position. He was our biggest miss this last season after Naismith.

We'll see...I'd absolutely love to be proved wrong but I don't see it. We've not seen him in about 14 months, even though he can walk and run fine. His problem is kicking a ball, which I don't see fixing itself if no one can find a problem.

Nobody can diagnose it. All I'm saying is his wage could be better spent if he's not up and running by pre season. We can't carry him until 2022.

I agree with that mate.

But like I say, he's not recovering from an injury (assuming his hernia is all good?), nobody knows the problem, how long do you give it?

We've got a duty of care towards him. If the consultant had told him to retire I think he would have but he seems optimistic so I think he might get back. We'll just have to see how it goes. One things for certain is that we need to find a direct replacement incase he doesn't come back.

I don't see Damour dropping to the championship (not that I want him to) and with Bozanic gone we will need someone with a decent pedigree.

I would say give Cochrane an extended run out but I don't think he made the first 11 at Dunfermline too often.

Was Gogic playing centre mid or centre half?

Halkett should be tried at DM IMO depending on our CB options. We've had good success playing converted CBs in there like Smith, Haring, Karipedis and Barr. He's not as composed or as good a footballer as Haring so he would have to develop the discipline Darren Barr showed in the role to do it well - ie cover the space between midfield and defence, win the ball and spread it wide or give it to whoever the playmaker is in midfield (assuming we can find one!) as quickly as possible.

Gogic was CH and I would take him for us straight away. Proper aggressive CB, but was decent enough on the ball. No Souttar like passing, but good enough.

Re. Haring

Part of the problem was one of the original operations flared up a problem in his Pubic Bone that took ages to heal. Then they had to fix the original Hernia/Abductor issue fully as it still wasn't right.

He should be good now he's back in training again. Was a mix of a weird injury & bad luck

Gogic initially played as a CH for Hamilton but was a DM last season. Would sign him if we are in the Premier but not for the Championship as should have enough options to win that league.
