Finlay James
https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/sport/football/hearts/latest-hearts-news/scotland-21s-coach-explains-where-hearts-duo-aaron-hickey-and-andy-irving-feature-in-plans-1-5020131 Not surprised by this as both have started the season well. The way that Connor Smith and Chris Hamilton have started for Cowdenbeath, I'd imagine they won't be too far behind.
jamboy1982
Ridiculous regarding Hickey. This is why Scotland are crap. We wait so long to cap players at all age groups!! Unless of course you play for the bigots. In England a young player breaking into the first team at one of the bigger clubs would be knocking on the door of the national senior side. Bauld
Hickey would cruise into that U21s side There must be an OF player currently occupying that spot in the team.

Hickey is apparently being looked at by Man City and Southampton, playing every week he is fit against fully developed, experienced professionals and he cant get in to the under 21's for Scotland? Surely better to pick your best players, regardless of age, and hopefully qualify for a tournament? Unfortunately for hickey, Robertson and Tierney will be ahead of him for years at full level unless he ends up at a top premier league side in England I.e man city and is a 1st team regular. Yes. Would be interesting to know who are the players in the full back positions keeping Hickey out of the squad let alone the team. I sometimes think we over hype young players coming into the Hearts team. The odd suggestion that Hickey should be breaking into the Scotland squad is laughable, but the idea he can't get in the U21s is equally stupid. Good to know picking players on reputation not form starts at the age group level.

We don't really have a right back of decent quality. Agreed. We are overloaded with midfielders, 2 quality left backs, no right back, no centre backs and no strikers. Cruyff Turn
Hickey should be in the full squad What is the point in sticking him in the u19’s? We’ve got O’Donnell at right back and that’s it. Hickey can play that position better than O’Donnell. No much wonder Scottish footballs a mess.

Gambo
Hickey is a great prospect at left back. A good prospect at right back.

Why wait until he is 20 before calling him up to under 21s? He's already good enough. He plays against big strong guys of every age week in and week out. Other countries go with young players yet we seem to wait until players are 25 before giving them a chance!

Lfhearts
Aaron Hickey needs to start at bottom in international terms as for Irving has to improve on last two performances or won't get many games or contract extended, Levein set up not helping him mind. I think Irving is our biggest prospect along side Hickey. He gets all over the pitch and passes really well. Of course he has the odd mistake but he needs game time. Hickey has the luck that he does not face much competition for his spot, where Irving has had had to fight for his spot. He should be ahead of Clare IMO.
