Coffee Shop recommendation required

Sorry to do this, i’m meeting a friend for coffee on Sunday, but it’s beeb a while since I’ve been city centre for a drink

dont want to go to a Costa cafe Nero or Starbucks, but somewhere smaller / independent

only real requirements are that we will be able to get a seat, to have a decent chat, and some sort of light bite as well

Appreciate with the fringe this is a bit bit difficult but

all helpful recommendations appreciated

Probably the worst location given the time of year and I can't even remember it's name but there used to be a great wee coffee shop down the bottom of the high street. You can choose whatever type of coffee you fancy from a menu and you get it in a cafetiere.

John Lewis is good. Decent coffee, decent food, great views.

He never said he wanted to buy a new bra and pants

All roads lead to Gorgie

I have tried Lowdown Coffee 40 George St and it is good for toasties and cakes. It is in a basement just round from Hanover St but it will be busy with all the fringe stuff going on there right now and it doesn't have many seats either. It is very central though.

Wellingtons on the corner across the road from Lowdown does very good coffee, and a small range of scones and cakes.

A small space inside with not many seats and some outside seats and tables.

Their coffee has plenty flavour, very strong if you like it that way but the size of the cup you get I feel is under sized. I think I payed £3 for a coffee there and was disappointed by the amount in the cup. The location is good though and the cakes look fresh.

Costello Coffee, Castle Street. Brilliant coffee, really friendly. Le Petit Francis do their pastries, so also amazing.

Not much use, seeing Sunday has passed!

Loudons at Fountainbridge.

Think they have opened a second somewhere?

East Market Street - next to the new UKG place.

McDonald's makes a good cup of coffee.

Probably the worst coffee of all the commercial shops. Absolutely vile stuff.

I'd say it is. Not that Starbucks is any good mind you but I find McDonald's coffee absolutely rank.

I know the OP said city centre but I can’t believe no one at least name dropped in conversation Gorgie’s finest, The Koffee Pot.

Up past the Kings theater is the treehouse cafe....though the coffee was great in there, being a cafe you will get usual light bite stuff as well i would guess
