Pfizer potentially could have made Sunday/yesterday's announcement about the vaccine a couple of weeks ago. Trump, however (and probably rightly), has set his guns on big pharma to get them to lower prices in the States obviously threatening to hurt the profits and dividends of companies like Pfizer. Of course, even if it's the right thing to do, he's gone about it in a typical shouty, bullying, undiplomatic way; one guaranteed to piss off the pharma corps. The brass at Pfizer, with a duty of care to their shareholders, have very possibly held off their vaccine announcement for fear of giving the Trump vote a bit of impetus.
