Smith injury is a big deal, Mitchell not really. Had a good game against Auchinleck but has been mince aside from that. Big diffference between having potential/good pedigree and actually performing. Quite simply, he hasn’t.

Just thinking, we could almost make a full team out of our injuries this season.

Smith

Souttar

Berra

Godinho

Haring

Djoum (missed first couple of months)

Cochrahe

Mitchell

Naismith

Uche

Don’t understand the Garuccio situation was playing well, was head & shoulders ahead Mitchell then all of a sudden dropped without any word. Levein doesn’t mention him in press conferences. Then in this injury update on the website he says at left back we’re ok without Mulraney & Bobby Burns. So what has Garuccio done to Levein?

I suspect the usual posters will be on saying he wasnt up to it and it’s no loss but for me it is a real blow as cover and competition for places is a key component of a successful team.

It looked like Demi was getting back to the form he showed in his first stay with us.  Levein said lack of confidence was his problem, which is bewildering given the support and encouragement Demi constantly received.

Something is not quite right with the Garuccio situation.

He played really well for us against Hamilton and Hibs when called upon and then has never been seen again.

Has there been some kind of fall out?!

Don’t think it has anything to do with a fall out. His defending isn’t that good and until it improves he will remain a squad player. Don’t expect him to be at the club longer term.

Garuccio”s defending let’s him down.

There is a difference between an event happening and when it is reported. Might have had to go to Man Utd for a scan first. And as he is not our player giving out information like this is likely to be agreed with Man Utd first.

Bad news regarding Demi but looking forward to seeing what wee Bobby can do if given a chance

Certainly bringing a load of players back from loan proving sensible.

From my understanding Bobby is a real talent but lacks any pace, think having him on Berras side could prove costly against quick wingers, would rather see him in midfield and put Garuccio or Mulraney in

Like posters above have said. CL doesn’t think Ben can play LWB but most times when we play 4-4-2 he plays left back. Levein clearly doesn’t think he’s got either the energy to get up and down. Or the ability to play good football in the final 3rd. Although I think he’s probably our best crosser of a ball.

It's a strange one as Garuccio was a winger who was then changed to a wingback/left back while in Oz. You would think his attacking traits would see him through games and would make him more a wing back than a left back. his defending is suspect which I think is the key to him not getting as much game time. Add to that, Berra being at that side makes that flank suspect if up against someone who can run with the ball.

There's the option of playing a 3 at the back but this should only involve Berra being in the centre.     We would need a more mobile player on either side.     My preference would be Dikamona on the left and Souttar on the right.     Other way would do.     Unbalanced but perhaps the best we can do.

We've played Michael Smith and Conor Shaughnessy in the centre.  Dikamona has also played in the centre.

Berra on the left.

Recipe for trouble.    You need a bit of pace and decent passing ability.    Berra is a bit short in these areas.

It's either Berra in the middle of a 3 or we bring in Garrucio or convert Mulraney into a LB.      Or Godinho plays at LB with Souttar / Dikamona at RB.

All roads lead to Gorgie

A shame as you could see he was gradually getting his confidence back and by the latter part of the season I was expecting Demi to be back to his best with the added incentive to impress with his future uncertain.

Anyway we will just have to shuffle the pack again and maybe let Garrucio settle in for the long term.

It's strange Garuccio wasn't mentioned by Levein. It's also strange the ridiculous amount of long-term injuries we've suffered this season.

Mentioned Garuccio and Mulraney  in the EN article I think.

Difficult to think of a game in which Mitchell has changed the outcome for the better to be honest.

Sincerely hope it ain’t the new pitch contributing to these crazy injuries.......Smith, Berra, Demi all suffered, Naisy was on similar surface at Murrayfield and can’t recall where Souttar was, Uche was fir park

Naisy got the injury at Dens initially, then aggravated it at Murrayfield. Souttar got his at Celtic Park last season and aggravated it in Israel.

I think he’s a better defender than Mitchell it Mulraney, they all benefit from Berra talking to them but suffer from his poor distribution.

Naismith gave Berra an earful for a poor pass on Sunday, he’s much better suited to a 4 at the back than having to move in to the space when we play 3.

Lord Beni of Gorgie

Garuccio is ok but that's  about it.

Notably.

Not only Levein but the less animated McPhee have often given him pelters. Suggesting to me tactically he is perceived to be weak

The injuries we’ve had this season have been to important players, we had over 40 players miss games last season due to injury. The current average is around 80% of the squad in modern day football unfortunately. It might be prudent to have players in reserve that are more like for like replacements ( they won’t be as good obviously)  if we want to play in a certain way.

Spot on, there has to be a reason he just seems to drop out of the picture. Played well at RB in the reserves the other day apparently.

  • 2 weeks later...

Wouldn’t say he’s a big loss in his second stint.

It leaves us incredibly short in numbers at full back but he was never really that great second time round.  Nowhere near the attacking threat he was at the start and a bit of a liability at the back.

Nice words from him. Shame it never worked out 2nd time round but wish him luck in his career. A cracking player in there but just didn’t come out this time. For various reasons that have been covered

Whole things a shame, best of luck to the lad.

Like many, has possibly suffered from a lack of consistency in selection leading to loss of confidence.
