Gorgiewave
Good Pathé footage of a Cup game vs Aberdeen in 1955. We'd beaten Hibs 5-0 in an earlier round and 5-1 in the league, but we lost the replay 2-0 to that season's champions. The bar at 1:42 looks remarkably flimsy. The Hibs game, this game and the replay at Pittodrie each attracted 40,000+ crowds.

assessor
Aberdeen goalscorer Jackie Allister was a member of the Bainfield Bowling Club and was always known as scoring against Hearts and helping to knock us out..

Maple Leaf
Spectators packed in like sardines, so that you could hardly move. Standing room only, of course. Everybody around smoking cigarettes or puffing on pipes, and the ever-present smell of the brewery. A unique combination. Most games at that time were walk-up, but that one was an all-ticket affair. Memories, memories.

Boris
May be well off the mark here, but My Dad told me about a cup, game featuring Hearts and Aberdeen and Hearts wore blue shirts. Going by that footage, that could be the game? why blue? Colour clash with the sides home strips, and also the away strips, I think both sides had to change as the cup? Anyway, just a thought. SectionDJambo
My dad had a story about the replay. Him and his brother drove up, picking up their uncle in Arbroath along the way. When they got there, they were locked out. Dad and his brother climbed the wall to get in, but the uncle couldn’t make it, so they came back out, rather than leave him behind. A long trip, in those days, not to get in. We lost the replay as well.

Seems bizarre, but cup rules meant home side changed. But yes, my dad could have misremembered.
hampdenharttley
I seen Aberdeen play in Blue tops and shorts at Pittodrie in the mid 70's.A sheep at work denied this till i showed him a picture of Davie Robb in his blue kit

They were known as ‘change strips’ rather than home or away, I think. In 1972, when we wore the Ajax strip, Hibs wore strips with green sleeves at the ER Derby. A bit random though. Sometimes we’d wear white strips at home against Rangers, but mostly maroon.

Tommy Brown
Gorgiewave The bar at 1:42 looks remarkably flimsy. I always remember it it being very springy in my youth in the 70's. I played at Tyney in '81 (against Robbi, MacKay, westwater) and couldn't resist jumping up and grabbing it to give it a good spring. The old wooden posts and round stanchions were replaced just a few years later.

Jim Cruickshank would regularly pull the bar down as shots went over, but I can't remember any ref pulling him up for it. Those goal posts look like the same ones I saw when I first started going without my dad in the early 60s.
