davemclaren
Booked up for somewhere near to Paphos. What's Cyprus like? We have a car for the fortnight so what's worth a visit? Plus, can you flush the loo roll down the bog?
Toxteth O'Grady
Booked up for somewhere near to Paphos. What's Cyprus like? We have a car for the fortnight so what's worth a visit? Trudos mountains are worth a look. Plus, can you flush the loo roll down the bog? :cool Aye : Good food too. Try a Meze (about 20 odd wee dishes) and Kleftico (sp) lamb very cooked slowly in a clay oven is delicious. The Keo Beer is OK too
Beverley
cyprus is one of my favourite places. last tim i was there i just went alone, and had a wonderful time. the people are friendly & helpful, the weather, great. the troodos mountians are lovely, and there is a lovely place there which has a tiny wee waterfall which is ice cold, and great for a wee dip hehe. you're not meant to flush the loo roll, but i'm not sure everyone sticks to that rule. never been near paphos, but i'm sure you'll have a great time. take a jeep safari which is a wee bit mad, with maniac local drivers. they take you to a camel sanctuary too where you can ride the camels, and they'll take you into the mountains, out to the oldest church on the island, and feed you some fresh olive bread (delicious) or simply lounge about on the beach drinking keo for about a quid a bottle
billyboy38
Great place, went in 91, we also hired a car as they drive on the same side as us if i mind correctly. We stayed in Limmasol, visited Paphos and Nicosia. Great food and lager. Taxis beep there horn at you for business when they pass you. We also hired mopeds which were a laugh. Horse racing is on the road from Limassol to Paphos. Fruit is beautiful...Enjoy:dribble:

Jarhead
They drive on the left and everyone speaks English. Whats not to love about this place? If you have hired a car don't be afraid to go off the beaten track. In traditional Cypriot villages the restaurants tend to specialise in fish. There will be a fridge in the middle and you can point out the fish that you wish them to cook for you. Fresh fish served with chips and a cold bottle of the local brew Keo. Happy days. championsleaguefan
Restraunt in Agyia Napa called limelights is the best chicken kebabs I have ever had Cypriots have a name for it that I can,t recall. The potatoes are really good to. wash all that lot down with a few large bottles of KEO. Visit the capital and see the abandoned shops in no mans land and take a boat trip to see famagusta and abandoned tourist area really spooky. You can also take a3 day crusie to Egypt iI was last there in about 2000 and that cost about ?100 then will be more now but well worth a visit to the pryimids. all in all top place for hols in my opinion

Cheers Northern Cyprus would be my choice. Cheap as chips when I was there a couple of years ago. No Euro rip off there yet. They drive on the left like us so take a trip up the "pan handle". Some lovely beaches and places of interest. Kyrenia is a lovely town with a beautiful harbour where you can sit and eat or have a beer and watch the boats come and go. I seem to recall they mostly sell Turkish beer ie Effes or Tuborg. I sometimes get a Sprite and make it a lager tops for the first dozen. After that who cares? hughesie27
Apparently quite a good wee break for somebody of 'your age' but also a good time had by people the age of your daughters. And by that I am not leaning towards the kind of activites I would be in to.

I have heard that the northern part of Cyprus is supposed to be beautiful but not a lot of people go to it. I am really looking forward to getting away for to weeks sipping on a few to many Effes'd or Tuborg's next to our own swimming pool in the soaring heat!! I think that's down to Northern Cyprus being a bit of a pain to get to as via Turkey is the only viable option (although I could be wrong) as said state is the only nation to my knowledge who recognises it. TFIHEARTS
you'll love it simple as. took wife and kids there last october weather still in the 30's far to hot in high season it's ment to be mentle. went to protaras local buses take you almost anywhere, you have to take a boat trip to famagusta and the blue lagoons, magic. this is just a wee note of interest for you myself and my two kids came down with ear infections they said we contracted it from the hotel swimming pool we had to go to the doctors like anywhere they love to rip you off. we where told it is quite common on this island, that could have been told to us to try and make us somehow feel better it didn't. i would go to your local chemist and maybe get yourself some anti-inflamatery ear drops or ask there advise. enjoy. The weather is mental over there during the high season, i remember going there years ago with my mum and dad, Cyprus was going throught a heatwave and it was like 115f for 6 days on the trot or something. Cheers Enjoy it bud because I don't think your Auntie will have her villa for too much longer because when the Turks pull out, which they will be doing in the next few years, I'm sure there will be a Cypriot appearing at her front door with deeds to prove they own the land. The price of buying property in occupied territory I'm afraid.
