smiler
Oh man I remember that, it was horrendous. Seen my mate suffering the same type of injury when we were playing 5's years ago and it still haunts me to this day.
Салатные палочки
Horrible injury. Always makes me feel sick when i see the picture. Might be wrong but im sure i recall a groundsman putting sawdust on the pitch to cover up blood.

For some reason it always made it more sickening the fact that rather than just a break there was a lot of blood loss.

Buffalo Bill
I remember it was on the front pages of most of the papers the next day, very graphic. An absolutely horrendous injury; as has been mentioned, the reaction of Peter Schmeichel said it all. Although he was 29 at the time, Busst had only played about 50 games of professional-level football; a terrible shame for the guy but he seems to have gotten on with his life. Good luck to him. Buffalo Bill
As a nice little footnote to this story, Coventry played Man Utd a year or so later for Busst's testimonial, the man himself scored! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dqIT0SVqQk

His compound was about as bad as they can get. There's no way I'm watching the video, I remember it like it was yesterday. Horrible.
jamboinglasgow
Mind it. Remember the reaction from Schmeical more. Horrific. I am pretty sure I read somewhere that Schmeical was actually sprayed by blood. Just shows to go how horrible an incident it was for Busst the most but also for those around. Big Slim Stylee
I do remember it. One of those things you couldn't look at:( You just turned away from the pictures. I remember Scheimcel's reaction as well. And he was no shrinking violet. 26 operations. Just the mental scars are enough to get over. Raise a glass for that to him alone, tbh. Bugsy
20 years earlier he'd have played on. oaft! [emoji1]. I can mind watching the MOTD but the photo in the paper was brutal. He did try to come back as well iirc. Not on the same level but Luc Nilis ? Was a dull yin too.

SwindonJambo
I used to work beside his brother. He's in reasonably fine shape now and lives a pretty normal life, still being employed by Coventry City. unfortunately for him he got into professional football late and never got the chance to make a fortune out of the game. Apparently whenever a player gets a bad injury in the game, the press bomb him with calls seeking his advice on this, that and the other. I do remember the tackle myself, horrible stuff. Yoda
20 years earlier he'd have played on. John Cummings would have played on. Seriously, that was the worst one ever. Glad things have worked out for him.

BigC
I remember seeing the news footage of Schmeichel throwing the ball out and reacting, but I never saw the actual leg until I was browsing through a copy of FHM a few month later and saw the photo. Would have been about 17 at the time I think. I just about fainted! As a first aider in a sports centre for 12 years I saw quite a few nasty injuries over the years, including dislocated knees, broken arms, fingers etc but thankfully nothing as bad as that image. Thaw
Gordon Strachan (then Coventry manager) on Busst: "I told him to his face that he wasn't the world's greatest footballer, but I also said he had one of the biggest hearts in the game. When you look at some players, there's nothing in their eyes because they think they know it all. David isn't like that."

roscogt1
Remember looking at it in the papers the following day (pre-internet). I hadn't seen anything like it before. Totally horrendous at the time and I've not seen anything as bad since. Was it not long after this Henrik Larson broke his leg against Lyon?? I was looking at that thinking - what on earth's coming out his mouth? Eye popping (cruel)sports injury that! I remember a picture of Hibs Willie Miller from about 1990. He was running from left to right, and one of his feet was pointing right to left. He was still running and the shock hadn't reached his face yet!
