tian447
There are 2 sides of the coin: Some people think that it is unprofessional to humiliate your opponent by not relenting in the slightest, and some people think that by easing off them it's disrespectful and as a result, unprofessional. It seems you just can't win, but I'd be interested to see where people stand. Obviously after winning 10-0 it's easy to sit there and say "I want to see as many goals as possible", but imagine you were on the receiving end of a demolition job, would you prefer the other team to show some mercy? I think by not trying against an opponent, you disrespect them and as a result, no matter what the scoreline is, you should be trying to put the ball in the back of the net as many times as possible. Ibrahim Tall
It's competitive sport, for me it's disrespectful not to constantly try and score more. It's a proper paid football team we were playing, it's not like it a school u10's side.
liam11
I've been sick of hearts getting 4 or 5 goals up in a game this season and easing up, in the process, usually letting the opposition in to grab a consolation goal. So I'm delighted we came out after half time and actually raised the game, albeit against 10 men. I'd argue doing that was more professional than easing up because the best teams that win trophies and succeed are ultimately, ruthless.

3fingersreid
I thought the players showed respect by not overly celebrating goals 8,9&10 There's been lots of mentions on here regarding 86 ,some from myself , so whilst I feel some sympathy for the blue Brazil the bigger picture matters and anyway who felt for us after celtic gave us a doing ? cameron79
Professionalism is not swinging the bar when the crowd asks for it, unfortunately... Skacel'sLeftFoot
We want a goal difference better than the top 4 put together! Nearly there. Have to say though, felt a bit sorry when the BB keeper came out early to warm up before the second half and from my view behind the goals, he looked like a man about to watch his bird do her first porn audition. RudiHMFC
Absolutely not, you continue to score as many goals as you can, it's up to the other team to respect themselves and put up a decent fight.
Guest C00l K1d
The same hibbys who come out with this shite were loving it when celtic papped us by 7. ArcticJambo
It wasn't disrespect, it was simply top notch finishing. Each and every shot was in the corner. It happens once in a while. Heart&soul
Don't think it's unprofessional but imho it does feel disrespectful - when Celtic ripped us apart last season I remember thinking it felt like watching the 6ft tall guy at school knocking **** out of the little skinny kid with no mates. FWJ
It's a competitive game, not a friendly or charity match. To take it easy for no reason other than to avoid humiliation (as opposed to resting or avoiding potential injury to players) is patronising and could be viewed as unsportsmanlike (especially if other teams are depending on the goal difference you're dishing out). Barney Rubble
I think we should let up at 5 or 6 against most lower league teams , but not hibs or sevco , I would've loved that io have been against hibs today tho would have been my liftimes ambition complete and could have died a very happy man of alcohol poison this weekend sometime
Victor Meldrew
I think it shows more respect to a team to play at your full level for the whole match. One of the more entertaining aspects of the 1-5 Cup Final was that we pissed around for the final 20 minutes - that's even more humiliating for the Vermin than if we'd given them the respect of actually trying hard. martoon
Voted no, destroy them, but after the 9th I did say to a mate that if we made it 10 we should stop. Glad we did, whether by accident or design, as I felt it was a kindness not to add further humiliation that wasn't really necessary to add. amadjambo
It's considered disrespectful to run up the score in the NFL. But having seen us lose the league on goal difference, and experienced many absolute pumping a over the years, we should 100% always push forward and try and rack the score up. If the other team aren't happy about it then they should focus on defending.

Gizmo
Look I feel a bit for a side like Cowdenbeath in so far as the disparity of resources makes it very difficult for them to be competitive. Unlike the old firm I'll never develop a mentality of expecting to win or a sense of entitlement. But it's laughable to see the cretins on wibblewibble.net complain about us hammering a side. They are just beelin' because they couldn't even match our 4 away to Alloa and then have to hear our score come in confirming that neither them or Rangers have any chance, whatsoever, of catching us. The didn't anyway but our big scores in so many games this season must have been so dispiriting to them. This one doubly-so.Well, nae luck. Luton Jambo
If we had eased up at 5 or 6 today out of respect or courtesy could it then not be argued we would be showing a lack of courtesy to Alloa who are on the same points as Cowdenbeath and it could come down to goal difference as to which one ends up in a relegation play-off. It's up to the opponents to stop us scoring 10, as Alloa did and not for us to ease up and not try to score.

dunciboyjambo
It's a game of football against an opponent, anyone who takes the foot of the gas in a competitive match is unprofessional and that includes the 2012 cup final... Feel strongly about that... The fans pay the money to see the team win, to hold back to spare the blushes is not acceptable, unless it's a non competitive match... Gorgiewave
I think being "merciful" is patronising.
