. Black boots with home strip. Away strip wear multi colour if it makes you feel good.

i could live with that.

As an aside - how does it work with boot deals for players? I know that the top players get endorsement deals etc - but what about at clubs like us, i'm pretty sure that Nike and Adidas etc don't target players in our league so do the players decide what boots they want to wear and the club pays for them or how does it work?

I remember years ago Nike where the boot sponsor. Ian St.John had something to do with it.

When I played (not for Hearts) you could get a pair of new balance for free or the club gave you ?30 towards your own.

Also any player wearing black boots these days is decidedly average and unexciting.

I know Ian Blacks dad used to force the youth teams to wear black boots.

Finally I quite like the blue and pink puma boots.

I believe Nike and Adidas chuck some of their products Hearts way as freebies to try and get their products on show. The Academy gives the youngsters access to Adidas Prohub which is a site selling discounted Adidas boots.

Wonder if Soufain will be the number 9 or if there's another surprise in store?

EDIT: I'm expecting him to play off the striker so not a typical number 9.

I like that top. So no sponsors at all this season.

One of the first things that Levein and Neilson should have done is mandated that all players wear black boots. The only other color allowed should be white - the logo of the manufacturer and their 'symbol'.

Colored boots are an affront to society.

My lad turned up at his first day of training at McDiarmid Park with nice new shiny red Nike mercurial boots. He was pulled aside by the coach and told in no uncertain terms (with a few expletives added) that he was not to come back to training until he'd bought a pair of black boots. "We only wear black bits here, son"

Outwith Puma Kings, Adidas World Cups and some of the 'design your own' boots it's actually really quite difficult to find a pair of black boots these days, I needed a pair for a few games at the tail end of last season and eventually had to compromise and get a pair that only had a coloured heel with the majority being black!

Players buy them. The club also have a stock of Adidas boots. Sometimes clubs get access to websites so players can get boots for a discount.

I would be very surprised if any of our lads had a boot deal.

This business about players requesting a particular number is gash - just perpetuates an over inflated ego. Same thing about having some sort of nickname on the shirt.

"Eh boss, can I be No64 and known as courgette?"

"Away and shite! It's Smith and you're 14. Now **** off back to training"

As for shitey coloured boots !!

The London Hearts nominal 'shirt nos' are 1 to 11

Nominally

1 - Goalie

2,3 Full Backs

4,6 Centre Backs

5 Defensive Mid

7,11 Wingers/Mid

9 Centre Forward

10 Striker

8 Midfield

Obviously can get confussing.

I remember my favourite Hearts team by those numbers in almost those positions

Smith 1

Kidd 2, whittaker 3

Jardine 4, levein 6

Berry 5

Black 8, mackay 10

Colquhoun 7, clark 9, robbo 11

Subs were usually 12 and 14

Watching the official World Cup films that are rerun on BBC there is a fair amount of goalkeeper wearing 2-11 and outfield players wearing 1. Any one shed any light on why? Thought GK was always no1

I know Argentina in 1978, 1982 and 1986 were numbered alphabetically, except for Maradona who got number 10.

Kempes got the 10 in 1978. Ossie Ardiles wore 1.

Italy used to specify the keepers with 1, 12 and 22 and then list the defenders alphabetically, the midfielders alphabetically and the attackers alphabetically.

I should have said in 82 and 86 Maradona got 10 (he missed out on playing in 78.)

Going by that list we have 19 first team players. Unless Neilson feels some of the younger lads are ready then we need a couple more in.
