MacDonald Jardine
Bobby Walker has to be in. In fact the oldest in your list dates back to the 30s.

Guest Bilel Mohsni
Just outside the top ten Can Gary Mackay be in their before Bobby Walker and John Cummings? I'd find that pretty hard to believe. Before the terrible trio's Conn, too?
Maroon Sailor
Can Gary Mackay be in their before Bobby Walker and John Cummings? I'd find that pretty hard to believe. Before the terrible trio's Conn, too? I don't think these lists have to be the top ten players to have played for Hearts. Record appearances is my thinking behind Gary MacKay. Tazio
Alfie Conn needs to be in there, and as said by others John Cumming.
Geoff Kilpatrick
John Cumming, as our most decorated player, should sit top of the list (cue our resident historian and his Bobby Walker man crush).
Guest Bilel Mohsni
Record appearances is my thinking behind that. It's a contentious one mate... It'll come down to people's separate definitions of 'legend' I suppose. I wouldn't have him in the top ten I don't think, but as you say, he is a record holder. Maroon Sailor
Ford and Busby shouldn't be in any Top 10. Ford got capped whilst playing for Hearts in the 70's ! That takes some doing !

Charlie-Brown
I would go: - Cumming, Walker T, Mackay D, Robertson, Bauld, Wardhaugh, Walker R, Young, Cruickshank, Battles Cruickshank as fabulous a goalie as he was for us has inferior stats compared to Henry Smith albeit Smith for the most part played in superior teams (which of course he was a vital part of)
Kalamazoo Jambo
Definitely a set in stone top 6 forming here Battles D.MacKay Young Bauld Wardhaugh Robertson All 6 are great shouts but there's no way you could reasonably exclude Cumming, Bobby Walker or Tommy Walker from a top 10. That would only leave one more place up to grab and I'm tempted to say Rudi because despite his relatively brief periods with the club, he played an important part in winning 2 Scottish Cups including the greatest victory in the history of Heart of Midlothian F.C. Colin Cameron, Alfie Conn, Donald Ford and our succession of excellent goalkeepers would also be in with a shout.
yabadabadoo1874again
Ford got capped whilst playing for Hearts in the 70's ! That takes some doing ! Franco Fascione
Personally, I would take Rudi out of the top ten and have John Cumming in there. When you look at it we have a number of legends, such as Cruickshank and Alfie Conn, who should be in there. Can we put Conn, Bauld and Wardhaugh as one entry?! I believe Gary Mackay is a strong contender for being in top 1-10 there due to his long service, games played and commitment to the cause. Rudi is just outside top ten for me but still a very worthy modern day hero.

Maroon Sailor
Skacel's record in a Hearts shirt is excellent. 41 goals in 93 appearances for a midfield player !! Played in and Scored in 2 Scottsh cup finals, collecting 2 winners medals in to the bargain. How many other Hearts players have done that in our 139 years ? Gregory House M.D.
1. Bobby Walker 2. John Cumming 3. Tommy Walker 4. Willie Bauld 5. Dave Mackay 6. Alfie Conn 7. Jimmy Wardhaugh 8. John Robertson 9. Barney Battles 10. Jim Cruickshank Meaning no disrespect to the great man but how anyone can put Dave Mackay ahead of John Cumming on a legends list is totally beyond me. Should add, if it was a greatest ever players list then I'd see where people were coming from. Infact, nearly all of the players put above Cumming in some posters lists shouldn't be above him. Bobby Walker only made it above him for me because he has a cup winning final named for his performance in it and his IMO unmatched contribution from a Hearts player to the national team as well as being widely regarded as Hearts' greatest ever player. John Cumming is always criminally under-appreciated in these types of debates though.
