And we could afford to do so. What a statement that would be.

****The All In One LGBTQ+ & Related Issues Mega Thread****

If I, as a 5’11” white guy in his 40s, demanded to be recognised as 7’ tall Nigerian in his 20s, would that be a mental illness? And if I achieved ‘the look’ by using a spot of boot polish and some stilts, would that add credence and acceptability to my argument?

    The Positives From This Season

It's been a pretty good season imo, 3rd place finish and 2 x semi finals in the cups will always be a decent return imo, Knocking out Rosenborg was special and significant progress for us imo, Also we weren't far away against Paok at home either, Overall not bad at all. I really hope we can go one better than last time though and reach the Europa League over the conference next season.

When we play Rangers last day of the season.

Who’s pretending? I cannot fathom how anyone wants Hibs to win trophies. How many Hearts games have to actually been to?

You took from our interaction above that I had thrown a strop and was leaving the thread? Now, you carry on spamming and seeking approval from your playgroup and I will continue to post on here as and when I choose

    Scottish Food

Evening meal would definitely go for smoked salmon starter and cranachan dessert Aberdeen Angus steak with whisky sauce ? Venison Chicken Balmoral is nice but sometimes chicken dries out lunch Cullen Skink if you have access to smoked haddock - recipes easy to follow breakfast - if you go for Ayrshire bacon - sliced sausage - Stornaway black pudding - haggis - tattie scone - you won't be hungry by lunch - have a couple of filled morning rolls maybe

    The Positives From This Season

And so long as we keep improving ourselves, that's a good thing. It's good for us if Scottish football as a whole improves. Now we need to concern ourselves with getting better results in Europe and starting to reliably generate some serious cash there.

    Scottish Food

I am trying to plan a perfect day of Scottish food for my family - breakfast, lunch and evening meal (dinner or tea, whatever its called these days - it was called tea when I was wee, but now I call it dinner - but when I was a school we had school dinners at lunchtime). I'd love some suggestions on what should be included. This isn't trying to be healthy, but it is trying to be Scottish (crisps in a roll and a can of Irn Bru have been ruled out though). At the moment foods I am thinking about: Porridge, Sliced Sausage Roll, Scotch Broth, cranachan, scampi (don't even know if its Scottish, but it feels it to me), smoked salmon, oatcakes, wee bit of haggis - maybe in a chicken balmoral but I have never had that. Shortbread and tablet get in there too.

    U.S. Politics megathread (merged)

RCP is a right wing news site. I don't mean that as a slur—I mean I could but I don't in this instance—they're a site for decidedly right-leaning political news. They do a poll aggregator that's not bad, but yeah, they always seem to rush to include polls that are good for Republicans and come up with a shifting goalpost when including ones that are bad for them. They're not Newsmax or One America Network one of the other super duper Trumpy sites, but they're a staunchly Republican leaning outfit. All you have to do is read their headlines. 538 was Nate Silver's baby, and while his politics are a little left of center (though not very left when it comes down to it), when he started it his career was in sports analytics and he made his money either on gambling or on informing people about gambling. I remember long enough ago when he was still holding down his sports analytics day job and doing his political stuff under the handle "Poblano." (no idea why) But his methodology has always been open and his selection criteria explicit. Basically he maintained a database of polls going back decades and graded them over a number of elections on their accuracy and precision, and then builds his polling average and predictive models using the stated margins of error and corrections for "house effects" and then doing a weighted average based on their grades. When he does his predictive models, he basically uses a Monte Carlo random walk and runs like 10k iterations for every prediction and gives a result. By his model, he predicted Trump had a 1/3 chance of winning in 2016, which a lot of people interpreted as a near certain thing when it absolutely wasn't, it was a one in three chance. I don't particularly like Silver personally—after he sold 538 to the New York Times he got increasingly cocky and obnoxious in his commentary. And now he's ****ed off to do something else and left another data weenie in his place, who seems to be less cocksure but possibly even more up the arse of the numbers and less critical of the inherent limits of polling as it's become even harder to get responses. But I like their model better because it's based on the core tenants of probability and the underlying assumptions of polling and they're open about how it works. RCP to my knowledge doesn't release their methodology, but from everything I can tell it's much more of an "old school" average -- just a straight number weighted by time without trying to do the sophisticated error blending that 538 does. Inasmuch as I still follow polls, I far prefer 538 average both for its methods and its transparency. As for Marshall, I mean I'm a Donna Haraway fan and I'll go on about situated objectivity until you're sound asleep if you let me, so of course all of our viewpoints are situated, but he's kind of a hard bitten old curmudgeon at this point, and not particularly prone to wishcasting. He spent all of last year repeatedly telling everyone that despite the fantastical situations everyone was playing out, a Trump primary loss was total wishful thinking and that the Donald was the nominee barring something outrageous happening. That proved spot on. He also spent the beginning of this year telling all of the "let's swap out Biden" crowd that they were spouting silly nonsense and that nothing like that was happening, and that also proved spot on. So not saying he's some kind of oracle but he and the reporters he hires often cut through the bullshit of American politics better than most pundits.
  18. I travel through Doha quite frequently (well, at least once a year). Your bags SHOULD go all the way to Japan - just check that with the airline though in case there is something odd about your tickets. In Doha, if you're connecting you generally have to go through security again. It has always been busy when I have been there, and it seems a bit chaotic, but you get through reasonably quickly, then go downstairs into the main departures area again. It is where all the shops/restaurants are (as well as a slightly scary giant teddy bear sculpture). Depending on which gate your flight to Japan is from, you might have to use the internal monorail to get there - it is dead easy/free - you dont need to go back outside to get on it.

    Sandy Jardine

He was the master of the pass back. At a time when Scottish football was all blood and thunder, he used the pass back to control the tempo of the game. He had the ability to beat a couple of players from sweeper and play it back to Henry to take up a few more minutes if we needed time, or if he didn't have a decent out ball. I think I remember him scoring against Hamilton in a 7-0 win at home - he certainly didn't score many for us. Great player and a real leader and mentor on the field. I don't think we should have made him joint-manager - and I never really understood why we did.

Doha airport/connecting flight advice (if anyone's had it)

It's a huge airport and the Edinburgh flight is usually a bus to terminal which takes about 15 mins - then follow connections signs and go through hand luggage security which is pretty fast before finding your gate on screen or there's staff at foot of escalators who you can ask and they will point you in direction of gate .(they scan your ticket) By sound of your ticket your cases will just go straight to your connection with Qatar Airlines that's normal Due to a delay Ive had only one hour between landing and connecting flight taking off and just made it - it's usually 2 hours at least which is fine .

    **The NFL Thread**

I just don’t understand the Atlanta Falcons taking Michael Penix Jr at the number 8 overall pick. They just signed Kirk Cousins to a 4 year $180m contract and didn’t even tell Kirk or his agent that they were going to take Penix. Really baffling selection, Penix will be 24 at the start of the season and now going to be sitting on the bench for how long🤷‍♂️

    Summer 24 Transfers - Vargas signs 5 year deal ( updated )

Naismith is clearly trying to bring in some intelligence into the final 3rd. Dhanda and Spittal are calm on the ball and can make things happen and hurt other teams. If we can afford Armstrong, he'd be massive for us with Barrie on the left.
  24. I was going to explain some stuff from my own experience, but actually I think you should ask the airline about your specific itinerary.
