    Summer 24 Transfers - Vargas signs 5 year deal ( updated )

If he is going, I hope we get a good fee, but also hope it's done well before the start of the season so we can find another striker. CBA, with a will he/won't he narrative all summer long

Absolutely. There will always be bumps in the road that can't be planned for, but for independence to be achieved, questions like those you are asking need to be thoroughly answered, and in a way in which they can be understood by the lay person.

Shankland contract extension ( merged )

I am coming to a point in my contract with Hearts going into my last year where conversations will be had, there is no point in denying that. We will need to see what comes of those conversations. “I have still got ambitions to get to a level. In football you always find your level. Then you get to a level and say, ‘Right, I wasn’t good enough there’. I don’t feel like I have got to that level that I am not good enough. “It would be nice to kick on, see how far I can go in the game, try and play at a higher level than this. We will see what it brings. But I would never be disrespectful to what I have got at Hearts The club have been great for me since I have gone there and have given me a real platform to perform at a high level with a top Scottish club. I really enjoy it there. If I am there for the next season, I am more than happy.” That being said, he agrees that seeing out his career without taking that gamble on the next leap may leave him with nagging regrets when, one day, it is all over. “You want to push on,” he said. “Can I get somewhere where I say, ‘Right, that wasn’t good enough’? I don’t feel I have experienced that yet. You could finish your career and have regrets and say, ‘I wish I had tried that and seen if I could play there’. If you get the chance you try and go and do it.” Might that mean a move south of the border, then? “I don’t know,” he said. “There are loads of leagues all over Europe. I have been abroad before. I will see. I will go abroad again. But, as I say, I am still under contract at Hearts, and I would never disrespect that position.” As high as his stock is at the moment, a starring role for Scotland at the European Championships might take the decision out of the hands of both player and club. “You never know,” he said. “If I nick a goal there everything changes. But we will go and look forward to that.” While dialogue over a possible extension of his current Hearts deal was placed on hold following the closure of the January transfer window, conversations have been ongoing between Shankland and his manager, Steven Naismith, who himself understands the lure for any player to go and test themselves at a higher level, such as in the English leagues. “He does,” Shankland said. “We have had really open conversations about it, Naisy, myself and the club as a whole. We all understand the situation. “They want me to progress in my career as well and do really well. The main thing is everybody is on the same page. We will see what the summer brings.” This may all make for depressing reading for those of a maroon persuasion, but Shankland’s departure from Tynecastle is not yet a fait accompli. Might there still be hope, however faint, that the club captain decides to commit his long-term future to the Jambos, and strive to become a Hearts legend? “Yep,” he said, “That is another option. I have got a duty and a responsibility to set myself up as well and I feel like I owe that to myself with how hard I have worked in my career. I will look to do that as well. “If that is at Hearts then so be it, I will be happy.”

Like I said. Transitional period as there was with the introduction of the Euro.

How will Hibs spin this one.

Just less of them and in the context of games v hibs and celtic ( which is when they come out) I don't think it is unfair. Certain Folk used them to make a certain point. Hibs and celtic use the tri colour for the same reason, hibs looked ridiculous waving their daft we tri colours at the last game at Tynecastle as we never waved any union jacks back. The hibs dafty section is getting bigger and the tri colour shows exactly where they are while the Hearts one is shrinking and imo the number of union Jack's is a visual indication of the number of these groups and at Tynecastle, there is certainly less. It's great to see imo, or not see in this case.

What would happen to them, could go and buy a curry and a bottle of wine with my pounds after independence? Would the cash money have to be handed in to a bank and exchanged for what ever currency were going to use? A quick Google shows there are 1.5 billion in use on a daily basis, in Scotland, the coins I presume would be on top of that.

    English Premier League.

It wouldn't surprise me if we lose 6 or 7 at the Etihad. And that's Declan's fault according to David.

*** Other Scottish football match thread, for anyone who gives a ****

Fair play but honest reaction is genuinely surprised. Didn’t think he was anything special at Aberdeen. Think tbh it says a bit about Serie A. Certainly fallen back since the zidane and seedorf days

Neither are about 99% of the Scottish population I recon! It's these questions that should've been answered in a fashion to convince the voters that it's ok, we don't need a currency, we can use x, y or z.

It is, what do you mean what would happen to them? They'd still exist, and still hold the same value that they do now (well currency fluctuations aside). If Scotland was to adopt a new currency there would be a transitional period like there was when the Euro was created.
  16. While I hope we offer Lawrence the best deal we possibly can, if he wants to leave this summer I hope we grant his wish. It’s no exaggeration to say we’ll be devastated seeing him go. But he’s done a lot for the club and deserves a crack at a higher level if he wants it. Long term it shows players that if you come to Hearts and do well, we’ll let you go for a fair fee when the time is right.

But isn't the pound underwritten by the bank of England? In the event of independence what would happen to the pound notes and coins?

Wee entrepreneurs in the making. Fair points. However, would rUK also play nice if we chose to retain the Pound Sterling? I'm not sure they would do so, and previous comments from south have not painted a rosy cooperative picture (although these may have been issued in order to influence the independence debate). Anyway, this chap appears to agree with you, albeit from a 10-year old article. https://iea.org.uk/blog/should-an-independent-scotland-keep-the-pound When it comes down to it though, I'm not a financial or fiscal expert. I just feel that if an independent Scotland were to rejoin the EU, which I would like it to do, we should go balls-in.

We have the £ right now so wouldn't be buying that and that is what we would use to buy whatever else we moved to.

Was in the Greggs in Davidson Mains once getting a sandwich and the staff member said there was a spider under the counter. She said she had “chased it around” most of the morning.
