I might be completely wrong, but have a hunch that someone like Robinson wouldn't take kindly to, ahem, 'interference' from Malky Mackay who, I suspect as a recent manager, would find it hard not to. Hence, methinks Robinson would think twice. David Gray knows that Malky is in place and yet has thrown his hat into the ring.
