Sorry I’ve got to disagree with you here, that forward line is far too weak to be able to lead us in Europe and league games on a weekly basis, we need a different option up front if Shankland goes, also don’t see what grant brings to the team, been here long enough now and hasn’t really got going, I would look to move him on considering we have 3 or 4 options in his “favoured” position.

Good post; I'm sure the approach(es) to games are evolving and it's a pity that the Season has already ended regarding that aspect, we were just getting going with the freedom afforded to us by achieving the primary goal and it would've been nicer if we got 3rd earlier, but you can't have everything 😉 Shankland isn't so much of a focal point, now that others are settling in and it's not the case that opposition teams just have to stop him or focus on him, as was demonstrated in the last few games I still think he's best suited to shadow striker or #10 / one of 2 switching in a 3-5-2, but it's not in the realm of us being accused of being a one man team and that claim having much merit; it was essential we achieved that but we're also capable of a tweak or two to catch opponents out, 'finding a way', as Naisy says Excited to see additions for the positions that need attention for next Season and to get an idea of the depth we'll have, come the end of the transfer window 🙂 -

I think your third paragraph is a pretty accurate summation as to how some of the US public are thinking. It's certainly some of the reasons I hear from co-workers, friends and family when discussing US politics, as to why they may vote for Trump. My wife and I are fed up too, but never enough to vote for him. We just feel political apathy and disenfranchised by US politics and will probably abstain from voting this election.

If in economy there isn't much between the airlines. If your really aren't fussed about Bangkok then qatar to phuket is a great option. Weather should be good there.

  9. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c1ee39wn30xo “Much of the tribunal centred on a disciplinary process that began after Ms Adams sought clarity on how to respond to an abuse survivor who wanted to know if a support worker who identified as non-binary was a man or a woman” “The tribunal found that the support worker in question had changed their name to one that “sounded and appeared to be male”. Management drafted a response clarifying that the centre did not employ men” I don’t understand this.

Summer 24 Transfers - Beni signs 2 year deal

Potential option at RB could be Reuell Walters. Very highly rated 19yr old who's left Arsenal as he wants regular games and can't see the progression there. Similar to the Beni signing

    Edinburgh Trams Farce Continues

Could Edinburgh not have just had a whole New fleet of Electric buses that serviced all area's of Edinburgh and the Lothians for everyone? Rather than a 10 mile Tram shuttle between the Airport and Newhaven for a fraction of the cost of building the tram infrastructure, saved year's of aggravation to the people of Edinburgh, saved on the carbon footprint and emissions of manufacturing materials, environmental destruction, all the enquiry costs now into many millions of pounds, the ongoing running costs, maintenance, added salaries, etc etc etc It's barely used outwith rush hours and Murrayfield events There is no way trams will ever make a profit or Edinburgh transport will admit to failure 😂

    Thailand Flights from Edinburgh

Finnair are okay. Helsinki Airport is pretty dead though, certainly compared to Doha etc. Worth considering the length of flights and timings, as middle east flights can be a bit of a pain having to transfer halfway through. I generally prefer doing a short hop then a long flight overnight and sleeping as much as possible. Avoid BA at all costs though...

This. How many of them like McCann were lining up to condemn the red card awarded against Celtic when we beat them at Tynecastle. There was no malice, there was no intent etc. These factors are irrelevant. If you put in a reckless challenge that endangers an opponent, it doesn't matter if there was malice or intent, there doesn't even need to be contact. It's a red card. Dermot Gallagher was reviewing the decisions from that game on Sky. Said the only decision the officials got wrong was the Celtic penalty, which he thought was a free kick to Hearts. He was also very clear about the red card, basically said if your foot goes in at head height against a player who is standing upright, it's reckless and dangerous and a red card all day long.
  18. I agree McGinn would be a good signing for Man Utd. However, let’s not overestimate what he is. He isn’t a Michael Carrick he’s a Darren Fletcher. And btw, Fletcher was a very good player.

I would hope our management applies that to ALL signings irrespective of League or age - but they can never tell in advance how any individual will adapt. Any ideas?

  21. I think he lacks polish, but ultimately his effectiveness speaks for itself. He's never going to play the killer balls that De Bruyne can pull off, but he'll get down and dirty in the middle of the park and make things happen. I don't disagree, but those sort of ugly effective players are often the unsung heroes of teams. Whilst not the same, Scholes and a lot of the so called English Golden Generation of the early 00s were reflecting on why they weren't successful, and underuse of Michael Carrick seemed to be where they all landed. They had all the skill in the world with Lampard, Scholes, Gerrard but nobody to do the ugly stuff to allow them to go on and succeed in big games. I know they're very different players, but whatever McGinn does for Villa, its hugely effective and allows the likes of Douglas Luiz to shine. TBH If I was Jim Ratcliffe and looking at a rebuild for Man Utd, I'd seriously consider McGinn. Rome can't be built in a day, and if they want to repair the culture there, getting those sort of players in is important. Although, **** that because Hibs will get money they

I don't think this is the case - his win % (24%) is more that Steven MacLean (21%) who he replaced.

It's not what you think that matters, correct, but you're the ones on here saying Trumps is "less of a snake" and scolding people for pretending that one side is better than the other. You don't have to think Biden is an amazing President to have a strong preference for him over a rapist who incited a riot to try to cheat his way to staying in office. And I'm not trying to be rude, but I refuse to pretend that "they're the same" is somehow a sober, clear-headed view. It's the same stupid line that Ralph Nader trotted out in 2000. He was wrong then (to the tune of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi lives) and it's still wrong now. I wasn't the one laughing, but Trump isn't cruising. He's literally polling at around 41% of the vote and Biden is around 40%. I've spent God knows how many hours on here posting links to polls and breakdowns and explanations of why, no, things don't look good for Biden right now, but it's about like being down 1-0 in a football match after 20 minutes and your team hasn't played nearly as well as you think it can. Not where you want to be, but I'm not getting up and walking out of my seat because the game's over. The NYT poll was Biden's worst in a month and it basically showed the race at a tossup right now. I'm repeating myself but scads of people aren't paying attention. To them Trump isn't the figure we're reading about in the news, because they're not reading any political news. They're not following the trial, they're not listening to his increasingly unhinged stump speeches, his promises to deport millions of people, all of that. They're remembering 2018 when interest rates were low and the economy wasn't still trying to recover from the biggest public health crisis in a century. This isn't an academic exercise for me. My next door neighbors were Trump voters in 2016 and 2020 and I'd give them about a 50/50 shot of either voting for Trump or not voting. I also know folk who would almost certainly say "undecided" or RFK Jr. on the poll if asked. They're not going to walk into a booth and vote for Trump but they're not happy with Biden either. The concern is more that they don't vote. So I'm sorry if I'm less than impressed with smug lectures about what's really happening. I enjoy this thread because of the views folk have, as they're an interesting view from outside the US. That said, I'm not having folk telling me the sky is actually green in the US when I'm looking out my window. And if you want to know how there are possibly so many folk in the US still supporting him, I'll just say as someone who was in Edinburgh on the day of the Brexit vote—the fact that so many people in the UK will still swear to your face that Brexit was a good idea and hasn't done that much damage is far and away the closest analog I could possibly come up with. From outside the UK anyone who's paying attention wonders WTF they can possibly be thinking.

If we did go down that road, we'd need a big physical striker that can win the first ball. I'll be honest, I love hoof ball when played right. Tagawas goal was excellent, Kent winning that first ball and flicking on was sublime Might sound painfully cynical, but I want Hearts to be the best we can possibly be at what we do. We can't afford the most technically gifted players, often that ends up being a path to ruin because of poor attitudes, or not being suited to the physical nature of Scottish football. But we can afford excellent athletes that can win their individual battles and not come off 2nd best in physical contests. We're never going to play Celtic or Rangers off the park consistently trying to beat them at "football" (in the technical sense), but being aggressive and physical we can get an edge on them. I'm not advocating it because Naismith has clear ideas and I think its super important that we move FULLY in the direction he wants to - no half measures, but in other periods at the club, I do wonder the merit of embracing hoofball as a means to being the best at what we do. its allowed weaker teams to compete at a high level because it can act as an equaliser to technical skill etc. Like under Robbie, our posession based style of play was dire. I'd rather we played a far simpler style of football that we could execute effectively.
  28. Lone Striker

    Danilo Orsi. forward.

Once again, you're mis-interpreting what I wrote. I said 33-ish is when a good forward starts to lose sharpness/speed, not 28. SHanks & Spittal are 28 - Naisy and Savage will know a lot about Spittal because we've played against him for several years, and some of our players were probably asked about their opinion of him too. I've admired him for a couple of years, and admired Dhanda this season too - our fans will have seen what they're capable of. If we were ever to seriously consider signing a 28 y.o. forward from L1/L2, Hearts management will have to be completely convinced of his ability to adapt to our game and score 10+ goals in the SPL - otherwise Hearts fans won't react well and the guy's confidence could get shattered as a result. Going down that route is a much bigger gamble than signing Spittal & Dhanda from within the SPL.
