    Scottish independence and devolution superthread

Seems Regan will demand that her Referendum Bill from last year is resurrected in exchange for supporting Yousaf This essentially put forward the premise that instead of using an election as a de facto referendum on independence an election should be used as a de facto referendum on whether the Scottish parliament should have the powers to hold a referendum on anything (including independence) at any time of their choosing Good strategic move as you would expect with Eck at her back I wonder if there will also be a requirement from Alba that their SNP 1/Alba 2 election proposal, designed to deliver an independence supermajority at Holyrood with SNP constituency MSPs and Alba list MSPs must be adopted by the SNP in 2026 The SNP under Sturgeon insisted on SNP 1/SNP 2 last time resulting in more unionist list MSPs Yousaf may not play ball however since the VONC is in him as FM and NOT in the SG itself meaning there is no requirement for him to resign as FM (or as SNP leader) even if he loses this confidence vote He'd be a lame-duck FM but he kind of was already even before this no confidence motion The question is why did D Ross not move VONC in the government which if passed would be much more likely to result in a Holyrood election? And if Yousaf remains in post next week will Sarwar move such a VONC, targeted at the SG rather than at Yousaf himself?

  10. Got cheated on (whilst not cheating myself) by multiple ex gfs. Came to the conclusion that human beings are not actually designed for monogamy. Once I understood that and stopped getting angry I lived my life accordingly. Now have a great monogamous but unmarried relationship of 36 years with my gf and we have three lovely Jambo daughters. Only regret is they would have been much more into the JyTees had they been sons! Still all three of them support the Famous and that's everything for me.

There's been nothing concrete in the press or from the club, but I would hope so, As I think any of them would improve our team.

So Hoff, Halkett and Boyce out for the last 5 games. Not really a shock tbh.

No he came up against the best manager of all time with a club that broke 115 rules to beat him. Unfortunately for Man U fans their time has come and gone, and they’re struggling to geasp that.

    U.S. Politics megathread (merged)

I read the piece. Eek, one of the problems with having an interest in American politics is finding observations by neutral observers, because try as they might, the non-neutral can't resist letting their "subject" get in the way of their "ivity", as it were. Marshall, to use your expression, dunks on RCP's average for two reasons. One is its "clumsy methodology". The other is that it "goes to comical length to add or not add polls to juice their favored candidate." But he doesn't explain what he means by either. I don't really care whether he chooses to explain or just rant when it comes to methodology, but the favoured candidate comment is loaded, and sounds a little biased to me. To me it reads like he's saying they favour the GOP, but that's only my interpretation. Since his reasons for not liking RCP's polling average are the same as yours, you might have some insight into who he thinks RCP's poll tracking is intended to "juice". It also might be worth your while looking at the figures themselves from 2014 onwards - in other words, the late percentages shown by the trackers and the actual results. In national poll trackers, you'll probably see more examples of where RCP's tracking overestimated the performance of the Democrats than you will in the case of 538. There are one or two examples in each case of where those overestimations and underestimations didn't happen, but for the most part they did. A fella with a simple view and a malicious outlook could accuse RCP of leaning a little to the Democrats, and might even go so far as to accuse 538 of leaning a little to the Republicans. A biased and partisan Republican or Democrat could accuse both RCP and 538 of "preferring the other guys", because that's the kind of shit that biased and partisan people do. Another possibility - let's call it the European option - is that the difference between the two is relatively minor in the scheme of things, and that both of them are doing their best in an endeavour which by definition is impossible to get completely right. I did like his comment about complexity being its own reward, and I think he's absolutely right. Unfortunately, in the hands of the biased complexity becomes just another tool to misinform. 🤷‍♂️

I’m not sure bottomless is the best word to use. Quite the opposite I’d say.
