Cobblers
I received the sad news tonight that Ian Walker a lifelong Hearts Supporter and great friend sadly passed away last night at the age of 82. Ian was until recently a regular season ticket holder at Tynecastle who could usually be found pre match in the Tynecastle Arms with his son Dougie (usually having a healthy argument to be fair). Ian was a founding member and Treasurer of the original Livingston and District Hearts Supporters Club which ran from Craigshill Social Club in the late 70's and 80's. I owe much of my early days of watching Hearts to Ian and Dougie although I never quite forgave them for not being able to find me to give me a lift to a midweek cup replay in Dundee in the 70's. Ian missed the Cup Final in 1956 due to being on duty in Edinburgh as a policeman so being with him in May 1998 when we swept away so many heartbreaks was particularly special. Ian lived his life to the full and like so many of us still behaved like he was a youngster well into his 70's. There are many funny tales I could tell about Ian over the years. From getting us almost thrown out of the Main Stand during one particularly lively Celtic game to the look on his face when my ex-wife took her top off in Bensons after the 98 cup final. My football trips back to Tynecastle won't quite be the same without him. My thoughts are with Dougie and Aileen and their families. Rest In Peace Ian. HHGH. The Old Tolbooth
Ach that is really sad news, Ian was a helluva nice guy, I don't see Dougie much these days so could you pass on my condolences Dave please. You're right about them usually arguing though, the laughs I had listening to them in the past were brilliant. RIP Ian, a proper Jambo!
