Sad day for football. Doesn't deserve that especially at this time of year. :sob:

Side were playing decent football. Good result over lolverpool recently also.

Fourteen clubs managed in 33 years; that is an interesting statistic.

Never liked him after all his moaning at Sheffield Utd.

Tony Popovic from West Sydney could get a gig here. Recently won the Asian Champions league and did his assistant coaching yards at Palace.

Played for them the last time they were in the PL too, IIRC.

Strange appointment in the first place given how Palace finished last season. Was only going to take them backwards.

I wonder if the likes of Sherwood or Strachan are in the running?

?29k placed on Pardew at 30/1, odds slashed and betting now suspended. ?3.5M compo allegedly agreed with an announcement expected on Tuesday.

I read Simon Jordan's book and he reckoned Warnock was a brilliant manager and was the only manager that he appointed who seemed to know what he was doing.

Hmm, that's odd. Just noticing there, that Pardew sent his number two out to do the interviews after the match, and didn't tell him why.

15 clubs Pardew has played for or managed - 4 years has been the longest stint he's ever had at a club, his current Newcastle stint shades his longest time. Palace was his longest stint as a player. ?3.5M is decent compo.

Chris Kamara said this today

You don't leave Newcastle to go to Crystal Palace, you get sacked at Newcastle and end up at Crystal Palace.

Pardew has an affinity with Palace and still has the family home down there and he might think he's had enough with Ashley and the set up at Newcastle.

Sally then to Newcastle for the remainder of his gardening leave, to get him off Rangers' wage bill?

I am not a fan of Newcastle, so would did this rather amusing, though would prefer that he continues to bleed Rangers dry, like a true Rangers man.

No chance Ally ends up at Newcastle. Could see John Carver taking over until Summer with Newcastle reasonably safe.

Apparently Pardew to Palace is almost a done deal. I'm astonished at how easily Newcastle have let him go.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew could be on his way to Crystal Palace following talks between the two clubs.

BBC Sport has learned that discussions regarding Pardew moving from Newcastle to Palace have taken place.

Reports of an agreement over a ?2m compensation deal between the clubs are said by one source to be wide of the mark.

The discussions between the two clubs are continuing this evening

Pardew seems to want to go back to London...it seems he spends much of his spare time there already...can't blame him after the actions of fans and the owner back in October.

Whilst in stature of club it may be a step down happiness for himself and his family counts a lot more.

Honestly have no idea why they'd look at McCoist when there's a younger, better manager pissing the league he struggled in on a fraction of the budget.

Seriously though what has Ally done to be linked with a job like that?

Ashely has been trying to get rid of Ally for some time.. there is no chance he will end up at Newcastle.

The chat was started as a bit of a laugh and seems to have grown legs with the social media and twitter followers but a serious option !!!!!!!!!!

Family issues will be a part of it - think his wife has been badly affected by the pressure he has been under

My post was not serious. It would be amusing though.

and Newcastle may have identified someone they prefer better - plenty decent managers out of work just now

Tim Sherwood perhaps?

Despite Pardew's reasons making sense, it's still a bizarre one.

Don't think Pardew's reason for leaving though is anything to do with Ashley. The Newcastle board seemed to back him fully when the fans didn't, even if it was due to the fact being they'd spend a fortune removing him.

Pardew was never going to be a great manager for a club like Newcastle and I always remember the bemusement of many when he was the man chosen to replace Hughton. But, in the grand scheme of things he certainly hasn't been a bad manager for them. Maybe he just thinks that, with a divided fanbase he now has the chance of a fresh start where he can have the full support of the whole club behind him.

Who knows.

Whoever it is will have to be Ashley's puppet. Don't think Tim Sherwood will want it on those terms

Who knows.

I think it has something to do with Ashley. Pretty sure he was hoping Pardew would resign after the defeat at Stoke to avoid the big pay out, but Pardew has got thicker skin than he bargained for.

This is a good deal for Ashley as he gets rid of him and also gets compensation.

Think he was secretly hoping McCoist would walk away too

Would Hughton return to Newcastle? I know Ashley sacked him before but he's out of work just now....
