Ulysses Posted July 24, 2011 Author Share Posted July 24, 2011 JKB Autumn 2011 SPL Predictor Competition Rules Entry: The competition is open to all JKB members in good standing. Competitors can submit a maximum of 1 entry. Entry to the competition is free. Members can enter the competition by posting on this thread (or any other designated competition thread) Predictions: The competition requires competitors to predict the scoreline of games played in the SPL (games from other competitions may also be included at the discretion of the organiser). Competitors may submit predictions: (i) by posting on this thread (or any other designated competition thread); (ii) by sending predictions by Private Message or via the JKB email facility to Ulysses or to other designated members (known as the Predictor massive); (iii) by email to [email protected] (or any other designated competition email address). Proxy predictions and amendments: Players may submit their own predictions, or may have them submitted on their behalf by another member. If a prediction is being submitted by one member on behalf of another, it must be submitted by PM. Prediction deadlines: For each round, a coupon of games to be predicted will be posted, and it will state the deadline for predictions to be made. The coupon will contain a maximum of six games. Predictions submitted after the deadline stated on the coupon will not be accepted. It is the sole responsibility of competitors to ensure that their predictions are posted in time. Neither Ulysses nor JKB Administration can accept responsibility for the late posting of any forecast because of error or failure in JKB or the email system. Prediction amendments: Predictions already submitted may be amended, but this must be done before the deadline stated on the coupon. Amendments must be made by way of a new post, PM or email. If you amend a prediction by editing the post containing the original prediction, this will not be accepted. Scoring: If a competitor predicts the overall result of a game correctly (e.g. Rangers and Hearts to draw), they will score 1 point. If a competitor predicts the exact scoreline correctly (e.g. Rangers 1-1 Hearts), they will score 3 points. Platinum game: In each round, one of the games on the coupon will be designated the Platinum game, and will score double points (2 points for a correct overall result and 6 points for a correct scoreline). The method for selecting the Platinum game will be at the discretion of the organiser. SPL Predictor player of the week: In each round, a player of the week award will be given. This will be given to the player with the highest score of the round. If more than one player has the same high score, the award will be given to the player with the best scoring record overall in the competition. If there is still a tie, the award will be shared. Competition stages: The competition will be held in two stages. The first stage will be run for 13 rounds until the weekend of 5-6 November. Competitors will be drawn into 12 qualifying groups of either 14 or 15 players each. At the end of this stage, the following will qualify for the knockout stage: * The top four competitors (i.e. the players with the highest aggregate points scored) in each group (48 players in all) * The ten highest scoring players who do not finish in the top four in their group (10 players in all) * The six highest scoring SPL Predictor players of the week (based on the score they achieved in the week they got the award) who do not qualify as top four or highest scoring players (6 players in all) In the event that fewer than 6 competitors qualify as players of the week (i.e. because they have already qualified as high scorers or top four finishers), the extra qualification places will be added to the 10 available to the highest scoring players who finish outside the top four in their group. In the second stage, players will compete against each other in head-to-head ties using the same scoring system. The player with the higher score in each tie will progress to the next round. Tie-break: In the group stage, if two or more competitors are tied for a qualifying position on the same number of points, a tie-break will be used to decide the winner. The tie-break will be based on the number of points scored in Maroon games (i.e. Hearts games). In the event that the maroon games tie-break does not resolve the tie, another tie-break method will be chosen at the discretion of the competition organiser. The tie-break method for drawn knockout ties will be announced before the knockout stage begins. Pools Panel and void games: In the event that a game on the coupon is not played or is abandoned and the result decided by the Pools Panel, points will be awarded to competitors for the overall result as decided by the panel. If a game is not played or is abandoned and the result is not adjudicated by the Pools Panel, the game will be void and no points awarded. Knockout stage elimination: If a player fails to predict for a knockout tie they will be automatically eliminated, even if their opponent also fails to predict. Exclusion from the competition: Any member who enters the competition and who is subsequently banned from JKB will be excluded from the competition. Any member who is suspended from posting on the board may continue to participate in the competition while suspended, unless JKB Administration directs otherwise. Prizes: The competition winner will win a prize to the value of ?50. The runner-up will win a prize to the value of ?20.
