Alfie_Gee Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 In my opinion Jose had a shocker today, however, has anyone else noticed that he is amazing at "shepherding" the ball into touch? This is unquestionably his strongest feature and he seems to be able to "shepherd" the ball from the half way line over the touch line for a goal kick. If anyone is still unsure of what I mean, it's where the ball is rolling towards the line (having been touched by the opposition last) and he simply uses his strength and quick feet to hover over the ball and let nobody get anywhere near it. Maybe this is why he is valued so highly? Maybe we should play him up front and see if he can "shepherd" it into the net? If we had two Joses, maybe one could take the extra long throw in towards the goal and the other one could "shepherd" it into the goal? Is there a song here? To the tune of "The Lord is my Shepherd". "Jose is my Shepherd... etc etc"
Cigaro Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 Two flaws. We have 1 Jose. You cant score straight from a thow in.
Romanov Stole My Pension Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 I think Jose is brilliant, looks very clumsy but I think he's a good player. Absolutely hilarious when he guards the ball as it's going out. I know he gets a lot of abuse for ersin about with the ball instead of booting it out for a throw, but he's usually successful, probably only a matter of time until he gives it away and costs us a goal though
Greedy_Jambo Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 haha quite funny. "shepherding the ball" Jose didn't have a bad game at all. he did well enough against a good and very lively winger. Did they manage to score from morais's wing play? no. Thank your lucky stars it wasn't neilson v morais.

Alfie_Gee Posted January 19, 2008 Author Posted January 19, 2008 maybe he can "shepherd" it in from a goal kick?
Zerothehero Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 I thought he was a complete disaster today, how many chances to pass to a Hearts player when all he could muster was a hopeless clearance to nowhere? The guy is an athlete for sure and his ball sheparding is top notch. Other than that, he's never a footballer. A total bombscare!
Mr Romanov Saviour of HMFC Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 If FIFA ever make ball shepherding a foul then Jose will probably have to retire from the game.
Dr Ian Malcolm Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 I like Jose - all the physical attributes to be an excellent defender and is generally decent in the tackle (especially when going to ground). I just wish he'd stay within the same timezone as the winger. Yes, fullbacks should tuck in, but to an extent, and generally not when the ball is over your side of the pitch. At one point towards the end of the first half Ruben was pointing at him to get closer to Morais - so naturally Jose wanders further away from him. If he can iron out that major flaw then he could become a very good defender. 'Mon the Shepherd!

tcjambo Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 I agree with you, but is this not the job of a captain? He needs a proverbial flea in his ear. It's just there's no-one there to give it. Maybe Rueben should be captain. He's currently the first name on the sheet. footieman Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 Jose Goncalves first half performance should be put on a DVD entitled ?how not to do it? and be shown to every up and coming fullback in the land. How anybody can go from playing like they did last week, where I think he had the best game he has had for a long time, to playing like he did today is beyond me. If Lee Wallace doesnt start on Tuesday then theres something wrong.
allystrachan Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 apart from his strength, he also has big long legs! it would take ages to run around the outside of him! lol i commented on thsi the other week with my mate, he is pretty good at it, but unfortunatly its the thing he is best at..... i woul dprefer if he was better with his head and could clear the ball on a volly without putting it out for a throw.
SuperPippo Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 I think he should start with the basics (i.e. marking his man) first before trying to specialise
Kemptons feet Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 He is a nightmare. Scary to watch. Bin.
By The Light.. Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 he is a bombscare, standing 5 yards of his man, and hibs were mince today, any other team would have taken advantage.
Debut 4 Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 I thought he had a mixed game. He frustrated so often by aimlessley booting the ball away when he could have passed it. His obvious strengths are his pace and body strength, otherwise he lacks composure on the ball and will continue to be a weak link going forward.
frodoker Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 he is a bombscare, standing 5 yards of his man, and hibs were mince today, any other team would have taken advantage. 5 yards my arse, 10 if not 15 yards, puts the whole set up of the midfield in jeapordy coz they know they have to cover for his mistakes. He looks like he might be good in another team..... 2 mil seems fair Give me Neil Pointon any day
Spellczech Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 WHat I cannot undertand is that Jonsson also tries to play football and loses the ball in dangerous positions yet he doesn't get the same abuse on here as Jose. It cannot just be because Jose looks ungainly can it?
CornhillHearts Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 Berra covers for him every week, his days must be numbered, worst display in the first half I have seen all season from a Hearts player-no exageration.

Hilary Briss Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 Iv noticed he comes inside when he is meant to marking the right winger, scary really!!!!! Got off lightly today, I hope 2 of the 3 trialists are full backs !! Having said that, FTH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Samster Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 he is a bombscare, standing 5 yards of his man, and hibs were mince today, any other team would have taken advantage. This is a good point. Had a pint with my Hibs mates after the game and they thought Goncalves actually strolled through the game because in their opinion Morais is so bad!!

JennyJambo Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 This is a good point. Had a pint with my Hibs mates after the game and they thought Goncalves actually strolled through the game because in their opinion Morais is so bad!! Spot on! Second derby in a row I've heard Hibs fans say they'd snap Jose up in a second. To quote one of them today - "he's way to fecking good for Hearts. The lads a standout for them. Morais never got near him" Not exactly my thoughts especially first half...that said they didn't score so Jose did what was required. He's had a few bad first half's this season and seems to play better second half. Dunno for why that is. Perhaps it takes hm 45 mins to get the measure of who he's up against!
Dr Ian Malcolm Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Wouldn't say he strolled through today, but he has done in the past - Sproule still sees Jose in his nightmares.
rossi_1983 Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Never really got beaten by morais Doesn't matter if you give a player a 10 yard start if you stop him getting a decent delivery! Looks ungainly but is 10x better than Wallace
