Boris
It doesn't say when this page was published. If it is recent then it's shockingly inappropriate. My guess is that it is an old page that needs updating. You of all people should know how that can look politically. Say for example you are berating the Lib Dems and promising not to increase VAT..... http://www.voteiainmcgill.com/news.aspx?id=
Chester™
Did you miss the quotes from the current Chancellor praising the Irish Economy as well, in 2006? http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/columnists/guest_contributors/article733821.ece Discuss... 2NaFish
Apparently politicians want to emulate successful countries but dont want to emulate failing countries. I learn so much on JKB.
Coco
Ireland's independence allowed it to make decisions. They were often bad decisions which led to the current problems obviously. An independent Scotland (ie within European trading areas not the EU/Eurozone) could have the levers (interest rates/Scots Pound/Government finance) to successfully grow the economy in a sustainable way. A low tax economy with reduced public spending levels, a peace dividend on reduced military spending and greatly reduced bureaucracy could prosper. That is not on offer from any of the parties though.
Therapist
Fat Alex has moved on. Apparently Ireland was a bad idea after all and he says we should now be like Australia, but without the heat, venomous fauna and criminal ancestry.
