Worst Derby Misses

Was thinking about our excellent derby record and how it could have been even better but for a few shocking misses.

I remember Clum's in a 4-1 win v hibs in 05/06, clean through and missed everything.

I remember Eskillson and the crowd.

On the other side I remember Didier Agathe missing from about 6 yards in a season opener at Tynie that ended 0-0.

BUT the worst miss ever has to be -

Pinilla's miss was worse than Nade's.

But Pinilla is a God. So Nade's is worse.

However I'd say Elliot's in the OP is worse than Nade's.

So Elliot's is the worst.

Aye.

Im sure Glen missed a simple one on one in the game he scored in last season.

Long ball and he dicked about something rotten.

any footage of Pinilla's? was it not very similar to the Nade one, cross over and right in front of the away end?

Not sure if there's footage. He was about a yard out, un-marked and he fresh-aired it.

Sandy Clark 1985 at Fester road finished 0-0 got soaked to the skin. In hindsight could really have done with the points that day :(

Ibrahim Tall after the 4-0 semi missed a point black header to make it 2-1, we lost 2-1, it was an absolute sitter.

And Wyness missed an easy header in the game at ER after O'conner scored late on.

My memory of that game is a bit patchy but did Wyness not miss an easy header at 0-0 and Pressley missed a ridiculous sitter after a scramble when we were 1-0 down in the last minute?

I might be talking shite.

What you say about Pressley rings a bell, sure it was a mass panic and he swing a leg and missed.

Dennis Wyness. Back post header I think in the game that O'Connor got the late winner when they were down to 10 for about 50 mins.

Easy header to make a name for himself in early part of his career at Tynie. Score it, he's off and running. Missed it and became one of the biggest waste of spaces ever in a maroon shirt.

Think you are correct.

Didn't Pressley try and score with a diving header when it would have been easier to kick it?

Yeah pretty sure he tried to header the ball whilst on the ground. Something weird definitely went on!

Racist post IMO.

Eskilsson's was the worst miss. Fact. :verymad:

I think Pressley missed on purpose because he was engineering his move to Celtic years later. :teehee:

1987 - the first time I'd ever witnessed a derby day defeat and someone (Clark or Kidd maybe) missed a late chance to equalise.

1988 - the second time I witnessed a derby day defeat and Allan Moore missed a sitter late on to either get us back in the match or possibly even equalise.

Suso last year in the 2-1 win?

Glen aswell in the same game.

The list from that game could go on for sometime. We really should have scored about 10.

Myth, it was a shot when he could have carried further before shooting.

It was for an equaliser deep into injury time as Big Davie got one back (we were 2-0 down) with a minute left.

One yard out and he put it past the post the useless little shite.

Wyness was a bad one but Elvis's in the same game from memory was an absolute shocker

Thought we'd stolen a point for a moment there

Robbo had a bad one late on in the 2-2 draw New Year 1998 . was it Cameron who missed to make it 3-0 in the same game?

Not a miss a such but my last game before I moved south in 1984 was a 1-1 at Tynecastle Robbo chipped the ball past Alan Rough and was running away in celebration only for the ball to stick in the mud on the goal line. The game probably shouldn't have been played it was so wet.

Beat me to it!!! The biggest "sitter" in a derby game of all time. I still can't work out how it didn't hit the back of the net.

That's another game where we should have murdered them.

It was two days after the huns beat them 7-0 and we were 2-0 up after 10 minutes and chanting "WE WANT SEVEN".

Kevin Harper single-handedly rescued that game for them in the 2nd half with probably the best performance I've seen from a Hobo against us.

does anybody remember the mark burchill one at easter road years ago, simon brown put the ball down at the edge of the box, burchill slyed behind him and missed a virtual open goal, horrendous...think the game finished 2-2.

has to be eskilson for me 1-0 up after 7 minutes from a neil pointon strike and big hans should have made it it 2-0/ harper and o'neil scored for them before half time and it finished 2-1. would have been so different had we gone 2-0 up. was made worse for me because me and a mate had to sit in the hawkhill stand with all the hobos as hearts end sold out. had to get police escort out at half time because we did not celebrate any of their goals or sing any songs. have never and will never sit with those peg sellers again

Bednar had a similar sitter i.e clean through on goal and fecked it up. Think it was the new years 3-2 game where miko scored winner and shiels got sent off for GBH on Gordon. Think we were 1-0 up at the time of his miss

Nade at Easter road 2 seasons ago, 1-1 when Bruno scored free kick. Second half the ball came to him, open goal and he put it into row Z.. think he did it again 2 months later at the 0-0 new years game at Tynie. All was forgiven 9 days later when he scored at the San Giro making it 108 years in a row :whistling:

Was that no Lee Miller and he was pulled down for a stonewall penalty that was not given.

When I saw the thread, that was the one which instantly sprung to mind. Open goal, less than 6 yards out. All he needed to was roll it in and he stuck it wide.

It was. It wasn't a sitter that cost us that goal but a bottling, incompetent official.

The Pressley miss everyone is talking about wasn't that bad. The ball rebounded to him after their keeper, Anderson I think, made a terrific stop to deny a Boyack shot from the right. The ball came out but was heading a yard or so past Pressley and he had to stretch every part of his body just to make contact. Unfortunately he couldn't get anything around the ball and it went wide.

It was an open goal after rounding the keeper. The official version is that Flogel got back in time to stop the slow roller on the line. But replays showed it was going wide anyway, ha!
