Konrad von Carstein

I would say you want one of the following: ford or vauxhall, any model, cheap to run, parts easy to find cheaply and given your budget perfect choice.

However the best cars I have owned were a Renault Clio followed by a Megane and my current car is an Alfa Romeo GT love it/her :ninja: .

Have you thought about getting a people carrier? Citroen Xsara Picasso or Vauxhall Zafira have loads of room and are cheap to run, especially the diesel ones.

Been looking at Vauxhall Zafira's

no bad like

Strangely, sitting here emailing away on the sofa with BBC America on. It's Top Gear and they just compared the Zafira with the Ford version. Ford won hands down in all departments.

i recently bought a year old astra.

i must admit , it is the closest to the perfect car i have ever known.

but , if you need large boot space(the astra does have a good size boot)then i would recommend the vectra.

i don't know loads about cars , but , after my last car , i do know this , never buy a fiat.

Mazda 3. Now three years since I bought it (new) and hasn't missed a beat.

The Japanese - who also drive on the left - build their cars with the windae wipers and indicator controls 'correctly'.

i can't really see past fords to be honest, as has already been said they are really economical and parts are cheap as chips if anything goes wrong

Had a Mondeo recently but the suspension was a bit suspect, very easily broken. I now have a BMW 530d Touring. Its the best car and engine I've ever had. You may find a 10 year old example for around the ?3k mark. Insist on a full service history though.

Or an Octavia. Very large boot, inexpensive to run and cheap to buy second hand because they aren't fashionable at all. Very practical car.

Stay well clear of these heaps of crap. Having worked in the motor trade I can confirm these should have been sent to the scrappies straight out the factory. Awful car.

Not a fan of the french cars, as always seem to end up with electrical problems.

Fords are decent, but they always end up with a whole lot of rust, god knows what they do differently to other makers.

Jap all the way for me. Honda accord should tick all your boxes.

Can you elaborate on this Lost Soul?

I had to stop driving earlier this year, but am hoping the DVLA medical lot will give me my licence back in April. I had a Peugeot 306 TD - a brilliant car, completely bullet proof. I'll be shpping in the same price bracket (circa ?3,000) as Jambogaz and a 307 diesel seemed like the obvious choice. What's wrong with it - intriguied.

Looks like it'll be the BMW 3 series diesel touring instead then...

or was it What car website :whistling:

Really?

It seems the best advice on this thread was to buy a German or Japanese car?

Why did you rule out the above?

I am thinking for my next car to be a German or Japanese car from this thread.

Simples.......i liked the look of the Focus :woot:

Ahhhh so despite asking for advice on this thread for what car to buy you just went ahead and decided for yourself whilst practically ignoring all advice on this thread.

Kinda defeats the purpose of your thread ..........

:)
