rudi must stay Posted November 1 Posted November 1 Free Fire (prime) Just a really cool and entertaining film 7/10

The beginning of the film I liked, but the longer it went on the more I went off it. The repeating of multiple perspectives didn't work well enough for me either, they didn't really bring anything new each time and you just got the same story, including dialogue, repeated multiple times. It wasn't a terrible film, and the actors in it were good too, but disappointing overall.

I'd agree that there are boring parts to it but I'm not sure the twist is pointless.
superjack Posted November 1 Posted November 1 Just watched the new version of ewar of the world on prime. Quite a decent film, really enjoyed it.
rudi must stay Posted November 2 Posted November 2 Cold Mountain I watched this as I like The Talented Mr Ripley (same director) it's certainly not as good as that and the usually excellent Jude Law is just picking up a payslip here 6/10
rudi must stay Posted November 2 Posted November 2 Priscilla (netflix) Very good. I recommend it 8/10
rudi must stay Posted November 3 Posted November 3 Den Of Thieves 2 Liked the first visually and it's chilled outness and I liked the second too 7/10
JudyJudyJudy Posted November 3 Posted November 3 “ Starman” 1984 It was on Film4 the night . Saw it a few times and loved it. Still as good as I remember . Jeff Bridges plays an alien who comes to earth for peaceful reasons to try connect with humans . He takes the form of Karen Allen’s dead husband and they bond with each other whilst trying to evade the military who are cynical of the reasons Bridges has landed on earth . It’s a sci fi romance and it’s also quite moving with obvious religious parables . He bring her back to life at one and also a deer ! Excellent special effects and great lead performances from Bridges and Allen . Unsure why Allen didn’t become a bigger star as she had good star quality . it’s a John Carpenter film and again underrated . It’s his only film where an actor has received an Oscar nomination Which is quite shameful . The music is brilliant too . Score by Jack Nietzsche ( One flew over the cuckoos nest and The Exorcist)

What a resume from the 1960s with Phil Spector , Rolling Stones and others to the 1980s The closing theme music from “ One flew over the cuckoos nest “ is terrific .

Muppetboy Posted November 5 Posted November 5 The smashing machine. 8/10. Biopic of mark kerr, the mma star of the 90s. Dwayne Johnson puts in a cracking performance, a potentially Oscar winning one.emily blunt plays his girlfriend and its a decent performance too tbf. Worth a watch definitely
rudi must stay Posted November 6 Posted November 6 Springsteen : Deliver Me From Nowhere At times it's a masterpiece at other times it's a slog. Great music though and Jeremy Strong plays a difficult and crucial part very well 8/10
Tazio Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Just watched Fantastic Four: First Steps. Enjoyed more than I thought I would. I’m sure it will enrage some with things like the Silver Surfer being a woman but it’s an enjoyable enough film and the production design is fantastic.
JudyJudyJudy Posted November 7 Posted November 7 (edited) " Dragonfly" 2025 What a stunning film. Saw it today at the Filmhouse. Brenda Blethyn and Andrea Riseborough . Heres a good summary of it. Save me repeating but its such a good film and shocking ending , which seemed inevitable and two great lead performances from the two British actresses. "Have we become a nation of strangers? In Dragonfly, neglected pensioner Elsie (Brenda Blethyn) finds an unexpected ally in her younger neighbour Colleen (Andrea Riseborough). Over time, Elsie gains a friend and the troubled Colleen finds a fresh purpose in life as she shops, cleans and cares for her. It brings brighter days for both of them. Elsie’s son John (Jason Watkins) resents the way that Colleen has selflessly fulfilled the responsibilities that he has shirked. Simmering tensions bring shocking consequences in a gripping human story straight from the heart of broken Britain. A powerful return to the cinema from London to Brighton director Paul Andrew Williams that showcases heartrending, award-winning performances from Brenda Blethyn and Andrea Riseborough. "I watched this remarkable three-hander from the edge of my seat, and more than once came to realise where my own prejudices had led me whilst trying to figure out where it was all going. It's powerful, gripping stuff. The cast are terrific across the board, but a special mention must go Brenda Blethyn for a truly remarkable (and if there's any justice, BAFTA-winning) performance." I forgot to mention the great score in the film. Its really menancing low key electronic score similar to " The substance " film and quelle surprise its the same composer . A guy called Raffertie.
Tazio Posted November 9 Posted November 9 Americana on Amazon prime. As the name suggests set in rural America. A simple plot set up of a woman on the run from a petty criminal boyfriend that quickly becomes a tale of various people trying to get their hands on an Indian artefact, some for the value and some for the heritage. At times funny, touching, violent, with a few nice quirky characters and situations. I enjoyed it but I’m a sucker for films and tv shows set in that type of American area
Bozi Posted November 10 Posted November 10 Juror #2 Had high hopes for this as it's an excellent cast, count Eastwood helming it and had some positive noise But it's a bit meh, the twist comes early on in the film and then kind of meanders along. jk Simmons is criminally underused, I expected more of his character, Toni Collete doesn't really show any inner turmoil..it's all a bit flat and not really got the tension that you would expect

rudi must stay Posted November 11 Posted November 11 The Choral I thought this film was pretty good. Made some choices I didn't like but there's alot of positives : quite a bit of humour there which worked for me, Ralph Fiennes is great, Mark Addy is brilliant and the best performance of the lot (IMO) is from Roger Allam. Overrall id say 8/10
Gavman81 Posted Thursday at 17:06 Posted Thursday at 17:06 House of Dynamite An absolute disgrace of a film. Genuinely not sure I can remember being that annoyed at a films ending.
