Watched Restless Natives on iPlayer as not seen it for years. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Not sure exactly when it happened but iPlayer has gone from a small number of films to a very good collection of good quality stuff.

BBC added load of great stuff during the first lockdown. They may be doing something similar. I find I am watching more on Iplayer & More4 than on Netflix.

I re watched “ Reds “ again on tv tonight  . It’s about the writer John Reed ( Warren Beatty ) and his involvement in the Russian revolution of 1917 . Reed is the only American buried in the Kremlin . It’s a epic film mainly centred on his life with his writer wife Louise Bryant ( Diane Keaton ) and how they got involved in the RR . Good performances from them and an Oscar winning turn  from Maureen Stapleton who played the social activist Rosa Goldman (incredible life that Woman led  ) 8/10

For something different I'd recommend Behind the Candlebra. Great performances from Michael Douglas and Matt Damon. Liberace wasn't my thing but fascinating insight into showbiz and what it can do to people.

Yes saw it a couple times . It’s brilliant . Both actors were brilliant. It’s a funny and tragic film at the same time

Sweet Virginia

Slow and steady thriller on netflix. If you're after something slow and atmospheric give it a shot. It's an easy watch

7/10

The Occupant

Spanish film on Netflix, it's been dubbed and dubbed quite well. I thought it was pretty good, the main lead puts in a creditable performance

7/10

Uncut Gems (Amazon Prime free)

Sorry, not for me, off after 25 mins.

The whole shouty dialogue turned me off.

The Take (Amazon Prime free)

An enjoyable fast paced romp with Idris Elba and Richard Madden.

I watched a documentary on Amazon called Viet Nam - an American Holocaust.

Some pretty grim footage and the confessions of some soldiers about their war crimes was just disgusting.

I didn't realise just how little I knew about it.

It is not hard to see why the USA lost. Poor discipline and poor training to start with.

War Horse.

Can't really give it a mark because I switched it off after 20 minutes. Not for me.

I'm the opposite, was enjoying it, but was interrupted and had to turn it off.

Keep meaning to revisit it.

Watched two Clint Eastwood films over the last couple of nights.

The Mule...good movie, like a wee true story 7/10

Gran Torino...another good one from Mr Eastwood, had a few genuine laugh out loud moments. 7.5/10

Watched these two recently, nothing amazing, but both worth a watch

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile

The Aftermath

Between a 6 and a 7 for both

He doesn't do many bad ones, both as an actor and probably even more so as a director.

Bad Boys for Life

One of the worst movies I've ever watched. Complete opposite of the original.

Presume it was purely a cash cow for Lawrence.

The Dig on Netflix.

Based on the true story of Basil Brown who carried out an archaeological dig in Suffolk just at the start of the second world war.

A slow paced film with a wonderful script and good acting. I really enjoyed it and would give it 8/10

Where can I find this

4 from the right of the second bottom shelf of my bookcase full of DVDs. :)

Very strange that it was years after its release before it was available on VHS or DVD.

I thought about a 9 or 10 but didnt want to throw a high score out willy-nilly. If you appreciate a well made film and not bothered if there is no action, then this is a film for you.

I cant find it on Prime/NOWTV or Netflix so you may need to look further afield. Well worth the effort.

God Bless America (2011). On lookmovie.io

Considering it's 10 years old , it's a very apt social commentary on the state of the US, in fact it's bang on the money.

A guy & a young girl go on a shooting spree (the bit where the Fox-News-type guy gets taken out would probably have people clapping & cheering now).  There's some good acting and brilliant moments from the script writers , especially when the characters are talking about who they'd like to erase from society.  It's a very dark comedy IMO
